Trouble TTC

What is your flavor??

I have been in a wine rut for quite a long time. Sweet whites...moscato or sweet riesling to be precise. I want to expand my palate and want some good recommendations. I know there are some wine lovers in here, so what do you all suggest?

Franzia Chardonnay. Now, listen. This isn't me trying to hold onto some sort of college phase. It is legitimately my favorite wine because a) I legit enjoy the taste andplusalso I am allowed to have whatever adult beverage I want. IT'S MY LYFEEE! b) it is economical. 5 liters of wine for $13.00? Fuck yeah. I literally give zero shits as to how it appears to the snobs. I drink award winning wine, on a budget. Suck it.

Cheap AND yummy?! Who can blame you.. Surely not me!

Also any Costo "Kirkland" brand wine. If you're going slightly fancier, my latest favorite is Apothic Red. Yum!

I LOVE apothic red. Also there are some really good Cabernets from Chile and Argentina, for like 10 bucks, that are as good or better than pricey Cabs from California. One of my favorites is called Penalolen.

  • I am also a Sweet Whites girl! However I really enjoy other fruit wines. I live in Michigan which is a huge wine state so I have PLENTY of variety. We have about 4 Wineries within 15miles of my house that I just love! Cranberry wine is fantastic. Also Michigan Cherry wines are pretty popular as well! If anyone wanted to do a local wine exchange with me I would TOTALLY be down for that =)

  • @Stace2524 - I'll have to try to find the Vinho Verde. Certainly something I haven't heard of.

@Autumnray - I love Michigan wines! My parents are in SW MI, so I drive past the wineries there all the time. I've had great blueberry wine. Never cherry or cranberry though. Adding to the list.

@Iputketchuponketchup - I've always been scared to try the boxed wine (don't know why though). I'll give it a try since it comes so highly recommended. Maybe I can cut my alcohol budget in half!

@fightersince83 - Not huge on reds, but I'm always willing to try. I've had Merlot, but never Malbec.

  • I'm a sweet white wine girl also.  I like Riesling or Gewurztraminer, but do enjoy some Chablis from time to time.

As far as brand, we have a few local wineries that I tend to stock up on and being as PA doesn't allow wine sales in grocery stores, it's the locals or the state store.  We do try to get up to the Finger Lakes at least once a year and stock up there as well.  We like Three Brothers and Leidenfrost on Seneca lake.

  • My cousins are wine distributors so we get to try new wine all the time...and we love going to their house because they load us up with wine.  Like last time they were over, they brought us a case of different wines. My favorite is a Michigan wine - Grand Traverse Late Harvest Riesling...it's cheap and good...I also like relax Riesling if i want to go more sweet.  Apothic Red is always a go to favorite.  If you want to try something different, torrontes is a type of wine from Argentina I believe that's pretty yummy...it's a white similar to pinot grigio.

@iputketchuponketchup my mom used to keep a box of crisp white franzia in her fridge all the time.  she loves it

  • Hi:

I used to be into white wines, but for the past 5 years I've been drinking Pinot Noir. I also drink Syrah when I'm in the mood for something a little heavier. Coppola is by far my favorite wine. When ever it is on sale, if it ever goes on sale, I buy in BULK.

I will be drinking a Pinot shortly with my dinner. YUM.
