February 2015 Moms

Forgive me for not knowing correct terms. (:

Hello ladies! First post here, and im just confused!

I am currently 19 weeks pregnant, or so I thought, with my third child. Went in for my 20 week ultrasound and the tech said the baby was measuring at 20 weeks and 3 days!
She also said that that probably wouldnt change my due date. its not a big deal to me, as i know baby will come when he is ready, but just curious has happened to any of you? And did your due date change? Original dd is Feb 17.

Re: Forgive me for not knowing correct terms. (:

  • One of my babies was 6 days ahead (the other was 1 day ahead) and my due date stayed the same.

  • Ok! Just curious. Like I said, he'll come when he's ready. That was just a first for me.
  • In third tri Annabelle measured on track then two weeks ahead then one week ahead then on track. My due date was never changed and I would switch doctors if I would have been pressured to anytime after first tri.
  • I was measuring 4-5 days ahead at my last ultrasound, so not quite enough for them to change my due date. I have my 20 wk appt next week so we'll see how it goes! This baby'll come when it comes, I figure.

  • I measured ahead at my anatomy scan and the tech and radiologist both said early ultrasounds (if you had one) are the most accurate for dating.

  • My original based on my last period is Feb 11. However baby has measured at every ultrasound as Feb 14. They aren't changing my dates.

  • My original due date was 2/14/15. 10w U/S showed baby was smaller and moved my date up by 9 days to 2/23/15. I switched OBs at "16/17w" and measured closer to 18+w with u/s, so I am back at 2/14/15.

As long as baby is measuring on track, growing, and nothing is slowing down, baby will come when it's ready. Baby will be here mid February :)

  • The further into your pregnancy you get, the more the dates can be off. That's why many doctors do scans at 6 weeks to date the embryo. At that time the cells are multiplying at a predictable rate and it is easier to pinpoint a gestational age.

I know my ovulation and conception dates and was 20W3D at my A/S. The little one measured at 20W2D which the doctor said was really great because most are off by several days. After the baby is formed they all grow at different rates - that's why 2 different babies can be born at the same gestational age but be totally different lengths and weights. As others said, they won't change your EDD unless there is a big discrepancy.

  • It would mainly be a problem in third tri. Early dating scans are most accurate. If the due date is moved incorrectly based on a later scan, time that is needed for the baby is being taken away. The last few weeks are so important. If the hospital policy is induction at forty weeks and the due date was originally two weeks later, you are actually inducing at thirty eight weeks based off an inaccurate measurement.
  • My due date has been, Feb 7th, Feb 12th, Feb 19th, Feb 8th, Feb 21st, Feb 7th. I use the 7th because I got the positive 10dpo if Feb 7th is correct. No way I got a positive prior to ovulating. I had a miscarriage 2 weeks before becoming pregnant that is why I have such weird due dates. Its not an exact science. when people ask when I am due I say first few weeks of feb.

This. The way to date your pregnancy by ultrasound MOST ACCURATELY is during FIRST TRIMESTER using CROWN RUMP length. NO ONE should have her due date changed based on a later ultrasound...

  • Don't sweat it.  A few days off truly doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. :)

With DS, I was charting (temp/CM) so I could clearly show my ovulation date.  That said, there's no way to prove if I conceived that day or the next day(s)- so already it can be a few days off.  Since I charted (ovulated around CD 30, not the typical 14), my obgyn went off my ovulation date which corresponded with the 6wk u/s.

This baby was a surprise so we're going off LMP.  6wk u/s was a 5 day difference, but we're not changing the due date since it's <1wk difference.
