Announcing the news!

Hi everyone! This is my first post! I was wondering if anyone has any creative announcements they are doing? I mean like individual cute ideas, not cards or pictures. And creative gender reveal ideas? Just curious.... I want to tell my mom in an extra special way but can't think of anything other than giving her a frame with an ultrasound pic! I want something super creative because she has been waiting for a grand baby forever!!! Thoughts?

Re: Announcing the news!

  • I got white onesies and decorated them with fabric paint for my first baby. I put "I love grandma" on it. I made one for every family member and had them all open together

  • Cute!! What's DH? I'm new to this and can't find anything that says what all this slang means, lol
  • I'm telling my parents around my brothers birthday and got my brother a card to uncle from baby and hopefully he gets it and shares the good news :)

  • We took a print out of a stork carrying a baby and added "arriving May 2015" to it and put it in a cute photo frame and gave it as a gift to parents. They have it on their bedside now :)
  • When I was expecting with DS, my 12th week fell near Fathers Day. We decided to invited my in-laws over for dinner, (my parents live out of state). I had cloth napkins embroidered with Baby _______ (insert last name). We're not sure how to announce the new baby. Maybe I'll just dig out the old napkins and have them add Baby ________ (too- two)? Still trying to come up with a creative announcement myself.
  • I bought my mother and sister a Alex and Ani bracelet that says Nana and Aunt on them. Going to give it to them with the ultrasound pick in the box next week. For our big reveal we plan on carving a pumpkin with the due date and take a pick with us holding it in the middle of us. Perfect Halloween surprise :)
  • First of all, it's sex not gender. You won't know this child's gender for a while.
I know the whole sex vs gender thing is a hot button issue, but I think "sex reveal" is very odd sounding. I'm sticking with gender reveal. Same with gender neutral. I can't get behind sex neutral. Also, I don't think there is anything wrong with a creative way of telling people you are pregnant-- it's an exciting time! Have some run with it!
Agreed. I get the gender vs sex thing but "gender reveal" sounds better and it isn't THAT big of a deal.  I honestly never heard people get all up in arms over it until I went on these message boards!

I see nothing wrong with having fun with sharing the news!  For my son, we gave our parents (who were both first time grandparents to be) picture frames with the u/s and a note that said "baby p coming March 2013".  They were SO surprised and loved the gift.  Each set of grandparents still has the picture frame displayed in their house. It is nice that they have a keepsake from that special moment!

  • I embroidered grandma and grandpa on some golf towels for my FIL and MIL, they loved it!

  • We told my family when everyone was at dinner together. When it became quiet I said, "so, ell (my niece) is going to be cousin". It was perfect for us and them. :) My husband video taped it without them knowing and I'm so glad we will have their priceless faces to watch again and again. :) For my in laws we are planning on ordering mugs that say "grandma est. 2015" for each one of them, as this will be the first grandchild, and serve their coffee in the mug when they come to stay with us next weekend. I think the choice is so personal. No matter how big or small, if the two of you think it's special, go with it.

  • Last time we announced by typing up a short and sweet "letter from baby" and then framed it for the grandparents. Something like Dear Grandma and Grandpa, Can't wait to meet you sometime around April 2, 2012. Love Grandbaby #6

For this one we announced with DD wearing a big sister tshirt.

  • OP, to answer your original question:

If all goes well at my ultrasound next Thursday, we will announce to family at my son's birthday party on Saturday.  Still trying to figure out how to do it.

When we go Facebook official, I think we are going to announce on Halloween.  The hubs, the bubs and I are all going to wear skeleton shirts, and mine will have the baby skeleton in the belly area.

We will find out the sex in December, so our Christmas card might have something about expecting a boy or girl in May.

  • I'm in Chicago, my sister is in Georgia. I did this:

    The card reads:
"Sister, I peed on a stick, and want you to know, in 3 or 4 months I'll be starting to show. Congrats Auntie Jess! 5-10-15"

And I had them delivered to her work associate who took a video of her getting them and mailed me the video.
It was awesome. (This was actually yesterday)

  • My hubby and I did the card too for my mother in law. It read "happy birthday grandma" which she opened during a family dinner! My mom I met the evening I took my pregnancy test and was too excited that I just showed her a picture of the positive test. This is the first grand baby on both sides so everyone is thrilled!
  • Found a 3frame pic frame. Putting pics of my kids in first two and writing due date in 3rd. Gifting to my parents for their birthdays (one day apart).

His mom will be lucky to get a phone call over an email- she's a giant piece of work.

Other than that- probably just telling people around 12-14 wks as we see them.

  • I have two daughters that are only 13 weeks apart. My first daughter was only 4 months old when we found out we were pregnant again. I made a onesie that said "future big sis". At first the grandparents thought it was cute and then realized what it really meant:) and now for this one, seven years after my last one and we thought we were done:), we got our girls involved in telling the close family. We told our girls first and then went to each of the grandparents and they decided to make up knock-knock jokes. They're big into those right now. The last one was knock-knock..... Baby... Mommy's having a baby!! Again, laughter and then they realized that it wasn't really a joke and the squeals ensued! It was super fun for the girls to be involved in telling and it wasn't a super cheesy thing for us!! And we've always told the family right away. My thought is that if something happens with the pregnancy, our family and friends know what's going on and it's just that much more support. And plus with the way I'm feeling this time around, I wouldn't be able to hide that I am pregnant. Third time around, I'm already so bloated people can tell I'm pregnant at 7 weeks ha!
  • This was our Facebook video announcement for our daughter- (It's black for like the first 5 minutes). My husband loves doing little videos. We'll probably do another one this time around- hopefully including DD somehow!

  • For both sets of parents we gave them onesies that said "I love my grandparents". MIL screamed and burst into tears before FIL had a chance to even see the onesie. He was so confused. My mom couldn't believe what was happening and my dad said he knew before he even saw the onesie. We did the same for my sister and brother but with onesies that said "I love my aunt and uncle".

For my grandma - it's going to be close to her birthday when we announce. We are going to tell her that we've hidden her birthday present in the kitchen and she has to find it. We will put a bun in her oven and when she finds it ask what it is and where it was. Hopefully she understands the phrase. We saw a youtube video of someone doing it to their mom and thought it was hilarious. Here's the link if you're interested:

We watched a lot of "pregnancy announcement" videos to get ideas for other friends. Too many ideas to name. We think it's fun to have a creative and different way for everyone depending on their interests. But that's just us :)
  • We are going to tell my 5yr. old and then make a video of his reaction and response and send it out to close friends and family as our announcement.  My son has been asking for a baby for quite a while, and alway's wants to help with my nieces and hold them.  He gets super excited when we get to baby sit them.  I seriously cannot wait for his reaction!!
  • We bought these really cute countdown calendars from hallmark that say "countdown to grand baby" we set the date for our due date, wrapped them up and gave them to each of our parents. Once they realized what it was they were screaming with excitement!
  • For our first, I made Christmas ornaments that said I love my Grandma, coming in August. It was really fun. This time, we just told, but we are doing a picture of my DS holding a sign. (Hoping to hold off on revealing that one until our Christmas card, but my bloat says otherwise). I say do what feels right for you :)

  • Thanks for sharing everyone! It was so fun to read your ideas!

The only reveal I have planned is for my mom and sister. My mom and I have never been close, but being pregnant really makes me crave that relationship we never had. I will be 11 weeks by Halloween, so I'm making a cute shirt that says "Mummy to be" for halloween and show up early for trick or treating at her house. I am also making a shirt for her that says "I'm the grand mummy" (PS I am not this creative, I found these shirts online but they're like 40 per shirt...) My sister lives in Oregon so after I tell my mom I'm going to let her help me tell my sis by getting on Skype and saying we wanted to show off our new costumes. I can't wait :) and it let's my mom be involved in the reveal too which I know she will love!
