Ergo infant carrier

What's so great about these? I just used the original baby bjorn with my first two... I didn't think it was anything special and not planning on using it with #3 but I do want a good sling or carrier!

  • Ergo is an all around winner. Bjorn sucks. It was my first carrier too-- I just didn't know better.

Wraps are really great for newborns. The moby wrap is an essential item IMO! I started using the ergo around 5 months. Ergo actually started making wraps now too so I ordered one for this baby.
  • Ergo is super comfortable for both parent and baby.

  • My SIL recommended the Ergo so I put it on my registry.

  • I've never tried a Bjorne but I love the Ergo!

Like @Stargirlb‌ said The Moby Wrap is great for newborns. My DS loved being in the Moby. I used daily for the first few months of his life.

  • Someone gave me her new bjorn and it was awful! Hurt my shoulders after 10 minutes and it's not good for a newborn. Around 7 months I got an ergo and was able to easily walk around for over an hour with no issues despite my kid being the size of a small sumo wrestler. I kicked myself repeatedly for not getting one earlier. In my defense I did try a moby but in my sleep deprived state could never get that dang thing tied right no matter how many YouTube videos I watched! This time I'm going to get a boba wrap I think for the newborn stage and switch to the ergo when she's big enough.

  • I just bought a Moby, I am excited to try it out. I only used my ergo with DD and I loved it, but I am excited to venture into the land of wraps.
  • I loved the K'tan for the newborn stage, then switched to the Ergo once he could hold his head up well. I definitely recommend both!

  • I used my bjorn when DS was small, but now preggo with a bigger baby it was impossible. The Ergo is so comfy on my back and hips I'm able to carry a toddler pretty easily. Love my Ergo!

  • I have the Beco Gemini. It's similar style and comfort to the Ergo - I really like it.
  • I'm between the k'tan and moby wrap. I'm thinking moby because k'tan comes in sizes and me and DH are so different we couldn't share. Is the moby easy to use?

  • I used the moby with my daughter until about 5 months, then used the ergo until she was 2 every time I walked my dogs. I only stopped because I was pregnant, not because she was too big or I was uncomfortable. Totally recommend it!

  • The ergo was so comfortable to use. I had no problems using it despite severe back & hip issues. I just wish I was able to use it more. Once DS started crawling, he never wanted to be contained again. He wouldn't even sit in a stroller. Hopefully this one will cooperate better. I plan on getting the newborn insert and using it from the beginning.

  • I bought a second-hand Bjorn for DS and hated it. It always felt like he was going to fall out the top, and it hurt my back a lot. When he was about a year old, I found an Ergo really cheap on clearance and LOVE it. I carry him around on my back all over the First Friday walks and my back never hurts. It keeps him up high enough that he can look around, so he's happy. I plan on getting the infant insert for it when DD is born and using it. I'd love to find a cheap wrap, too, but I never could figure out how to get the Moby wrapped. I also used that Seven Sling and the Baby Balboa for DS when he was itty bitty, but he got tired of laying down very quickly. He wanted to be up and looking around.
  • There are a lot of soft-structured carriers similar to the Ergo. I had one but I'm very petite so I felt like there was too much buckle and straps to worry about. I got an Infantino sash mei tai and it is WAY more comfortable, and easy to use.

  • Eh maybe I am an oddbal, but neither my daughter nor myself enjoyed the ergo at all. My daughter would only tolerate the "crotch danglers". I am thinking about buying a wrap for the early stages, however I am not very coordinated. I am afraid I would never learn to use it.

  • I have an Ergo and Moby wrap. My first carrier was a Bjorn and it hurt my back really badly- however, my sister asked to use it and really loves it. It's true, the Bjorn is bad for baby's hips and such but I am also one to say that jumparoos, activity centers, and walkers that you stand the baby in are also not ergonomical. So basically, IMO if you like the Bjorn and it feels comfortable to you, and your baby isn't in it for 700 hours a day the Bjorn is OK.

  • I have a K'Tan for the first few months and an Ergo for later months.  I loved both with my DD (who is almost 2) and still use the Ergo with her.  I never used a Bjorn but they make the baby look mighty uncomfortable in my opinion.  Plus, if you're super talented (which I wasn't), you can nurse in the Ergo.

  • I must just be shaped really oddly :P I can't get the ergo on properly no matter who is helping me with it and I find the bjorn super comfy (I've tried both from friends and carried around their infants for extended periods to figure out which I liked).

  • I'm another who loved the K'tan in the early months. I was overwhelmed by the Moby (and all of the fabric with the heat), but the K'tan was so easy! We got a cheap carrier as a shower gift and ultimately I was glad we didn't spend for something better because after about two months my DD hated being in any carrier (or anything restrictive at all). Every baby is different I guess.

  • I have an ergo. I've hardly used it. I don't care for it. My husband doesn't either.
I LOVE my ktan, I've got 2 of them.
I also have a maya ring sling that I like.

  • I have a Maya sling ring that I used until my daughter was about 6 months old (she didn't like the hip carry at all).

We also used the Ergo--my husband wore it a lot and we loved it.  I wish we had continued to use it, but we both struggled to get it on backpack-style without help.  LOVE the Ergo.  And the Ergo has a snap-on blanket, which will be handy.

  • I'm a FTM so have no idea how it will go for us.  But my DH and I went to buy buy baby and tried on a bunch with the fake weighted baby.  There is a newer style bjorn (I think the bjorn one) that has a very similar shape/fit as the ergo and has a better position for the hips that we ended up going with.  Since my DH is pretty big it was the only one that really was comfortable for him.

  • I used the Bjorn with my other two. They don't have any hip/spinal issues. They weren't constantly in it though. If you plan on being a "baby wearer" I would opt to get something more supportive for the baby. As far as personal support, if you have the bjorn adjusted right and you have good posture, it shouldn't be causing you problems. Most people don't though. The one thing I don't like about the Ergo is that it doesn't cross in the back which causes your shoulders to slump forward. I already have weak shoulder joints and back muscles so it's uncomfortable. I do like the lower strap though.

The Ortho (and mom of a child born with hip dysplasia) in me is begging you not to use a crotch-dangler carrier (Bjorn) for reasons stated and the diagram @9513‌ posted. It's terrible for their hips.

There are lots of choices besides the ergo and Bjorn. The AP board on here has a lot of baby wearing posts, I found those most helpful when trying to determine what would work best for us. I ended up with a K'tan, a ring sling, and an Ergo.

    Jan 15  NOV siggy challenge:

  • I went to the website to check out the ergo, and I see they have a few different styles. Any comments on the best style for living in a hot state?

  • i love my ergo (even with a newborn, with the right insert), but it can get a little warm if it's above like 70 degrees F outside and you're planning on being active (walking or whatever).  i can see why everyone loves the moby so much but it killed my back.  i'm reading that i should go for a woven wrap because they're more supportive, so i figure i'll probably be wearing the ergo during cooler weather and get a nice lightweight woven wrap for warmer weather.
