I feel like a broken record, I can't tell you how many times a day I

snap at my toddler "don't touch!" - the new baby's swing, bouncer, tub, binky, carseat etc etc.... all.day.long. Why oh why can't I tell her once and have her listen?! I'm trying to be patient and understanding as I know having a new baby sister is a lot for her to take in but it's driving me CRAZY! How do I get her to stop touching / playing with these things?

Re: I feel like a broken record, I can't tell you how many times a day I

  • Have you bought her the Graco set that includes a PNP, swing, stroller, and the swing container is like a car seat/bouncy seat or is "the swing."

She is doing *her job* as a curious, exploratory toddler and nothing you could do short of seriously abusing her will make her stop.  So, redirect to an equal toy-version, or teach her "gentle touch!"

Good luck :)  Just remember this is like asking a cat not to lick its body clean.  Ain't gonna happen so work around it.

  • Loading the player...
  • I guess "touch" isn't the right word. She sits/lays on the bouncer, tries to stop the swing while in motion (we can't afford to replace these things), grabs the binky and/or bottle then bolts while shoving into her mouth as fast as she can before I get to her! I try redirecting, timeouts, rationalizing (I know - impossible) and she just continues the behavior and then brags about it! Aaaahhh.
