Musty smell.

So I picked up the used sbish fitteds today. They smelled like detergent as soon as she handed them over.

As soon as I got home, I planned on doing a hot water strip. The second water hit them, they smelled like something else.

It was a dank, musty basement kind of smell. What does that mean? That's different than barnyard, right? It kind of makes me wonder if they weren't getting dried all the way sometimes.

I am currently continuing with the hot water strip, because they are doing some serious sudsing, but should I do anything else? I usually do a bleach wash on used stuff, that would help if the smell was mildew or something right?

And it does make sense to do a few hot washes do get the extra detergent out BEFORE I do the bleach wash, right?

I have super hard water and if I run out of softener mine can start to get a musty smell only when wet. I think it's from the hard water build up/detergent build up. I do a bunch of hot water washes with water softener until all the bubbles are gone and that usually clears it up.
