Help me buy a mattress

Ok, I need a king size mattress for the guest room.  Like soon, because my sister gets here in 9 days...

Has anyone recently purchased a mattress that they can recommend that was fairly inexpensive?

I saw some on amazon (love my prime haha).  The reviews are good, but I'm still nervous to buy online.  That being said, I am not dragging 2 kids to a mattress store to test them all out so I don't really have a choice..

Anyone...anyone...???

Re: Help me buy a mattress

  • Ok, so we bought a new king mattress this time last year; I actually enjoyed taking DS mattress shopping; he liked rolling all over them :P

ANYWAY, I looked on overstock and wrote down the specs for the ones we had narrowed it down to. Then we went to the store and found the same mattresses (but they have different names - that's why I had the specs), to try them out.  The mattress store ended up MATCHING the overstock price and delivering the next freakin day.  Couldn't beat that.  So yea, I would try to find something comparable in store to what you're looking online so you can try it.  Then order it if it's cheaper online!

We got a beauty rest; although, now I forget the model.  It wasn't the fancy schmancy one though, it was a more basic one, but we looooove it.

  • Do you live near an Ikea? That's where we just got ours, the Sultana Hansbo, I think it was something like $600. But, we didn't get a boxspring, just the mattress. I agree with PPs about Costco as well, they seem to have good deals.

  • https://www.alabamafurnituremarket.com Great prices on nice mattresses. They'll deliver too.
  • They also have great prices on tons of brand name furniture you see in fancy boutique furniture stores. It's about 20-25 minutes down 65 from town, but worth it.
  • Thanks @notkateanymore :)  I'll check them out now.

  • They have really good prices for NICE mattresses. They aren't bargain basement prices, but our mattress at the lake is amazing and it was only like $700 for a king I think. Pillow top, fantastic. They delivered for free too.

Also, they have tons of great lines that they can get of other furniture. All the lines you see on their website, they can order anything you see on the brands website.

Never buy a mattress unless you've actually laid down on it.  One person's comfortable is another person's backache.  Set your budget and go even if it means taking the kids along. Sam's, Costco, Menard's, etc. all have a basic option available. Most places will also throw in delivery for King Size beds. I'd also rather deal with a local mattress store where if there's a warranty issue you can pick up the phone and they handle it.
