pressure & cramping

I need some opinions. This week I have been having a lot of pressure and cramping in my lower stomach. Sometimes there is a slicing pain or burning and lower back pain that is keeping me up at night. I have been having contractions since 18 weeks and I'm taking procardia every 4 hours. No bleeding or fluid but my stomach is rock hard and a weird football shape. Do you think it is just Braxton hicks or should I call my dr? I don't want to call and go in and everything is fine and I look like I'm over reacting.

  • You should call. I started having similar symptoms last week, went in and found I am dialating, cervix thinning and baby is LOW. So now I am on light duty and weekly visits.

If I hadn't gone in, I would just have kept up my full duty job-walking hours a day, and probably would have gone into labor. So I say, call.
  • I would call if it were me. In my experience Braxton Hicks haven't caused cramping just a tightening sensation.
  • Braxton hicks are not really contractions if I haveu my information correct. More like muscle spasms. They shouldn't hurt. I would call. It could be contractions, it could be pressure on a nerve, but it won't hurt to be checked out, especially with your history.
  • Call the Dr. I had similar last Friday. Cramping, back pain, etc and went to the ER. They sent us up to OB and hooked us up. Turns out I had a bladder infection. Could be something like that, could be different. When in doubt and you have an uneasy feeling it's better to call.
  • Thank you everyone. I am on my way to L&D. I'm hoping it is just something easy. I might have an infection. That would be better than labor. I'm not ready! Lol
  • I'm glad you are going in. Better safe than sorry!
