Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Early MC/Chemical Pregnancy

Hi ladies. I was just wondering how long the bleeding is for an early miscarriage or a chemical pregnancy? I found out on the 16th that I was pregnant, and then on Monday the 22nd, I started spotting and having back pain. The spotting was light pink/red color. I had blood tests done to check my levels and on Monday it was 218, yesterday it went to 74. The dr said I was in the process of miscarriage. I was just wondering how long this bleeding will last? It's not heavy bleeding and it's not bright red. It's still pink/red and only small small amounts on my pads throughout the day. Any advice helps. Thank you so much.

Re: Early MC/Chemical Pregnancy

  • Hi. I am sorry for your loss. I should have been around 9 weeks, but was measuring at 6 weeks. I have been bleeding for 9 days now. tmi ahead: it was red for about a week, but it has been brown and very light for the past few days, but still there. I think it can vary, but not sure. I wonder if since yours was so soon after finding out if you might expect it as long as your period.

  • That's what I'm hoping for. I was reading in my 'What to Expect when expecting' book that a chemical pregnancy can cause a period to be up to a week late, which mine would have been. Hoping that the bleeding stops soon. It's just pink color, and hardly gets onto a pad, but when I wipe, it's definitely there on the toilet paper. Sorry that you're experiencing a MC too. It sucks badly. I just tell myself that God must've decided that this baby he blessed me with must've had too many medical problems if the pregnancy would've continued. As sad as I am to have lost my first pregnancy, I'm glad that it wasn't when I was 4 months or longer into it. Prayers to yoy.
  • I'm so sorry for your loss.

I had a chemical pregnancy in March and found it to be very different from the miscarriage I am having now (was just over 8 weeks when it started, but the baby was measuring just over 6).

The chemical pregnancy period was actually lighter than usual (for me), but longer. I think it lasted about 7 days.

This time around I have been bleeding since Monday....lots and lots and lots of severe cramps (they remind me of early labor contractions), blood is bright bright red for now (with exception to the clots which are very dark red) and very....liquidy? Definitely different from a regular period.

This all just sucks, doesn't it? :(

  • Yes, it sucks badly. I was only 5.5 weeks, but my husband and I were so attached already. I did so much crying yesterday when my dr called and gave me the news of the loss. It's definitely a woman's worst nightmare to hear that she is losing her baby. I'm sorry you're going through it as well. Hopefully the next pregnancy is a "sticker".
