Infant Seat - Stroller Advice

How tragic would it have been if your infant seat and stroller had not been compatible?  We bought the Peg Perego Viaggo, but it's a new model and the adapter for the UppaBaby Vista have not yet been released.  I was told they would be released in October, but who knows if that will actually happen.  I can always get a new infant seat, but I love the lightness of the Peg....

Re: Infant Seat - Stroller Advice

  • Honestly, I used the infant seat in the stroller A LOT...and still do sometimes!  Not only for convenience but it was my understanding that the baby shouldn't be in the stroller without the infant seat until they have better head control.  But maybe I am wrong?

I thought they could be in the bassinet attachment for the stroller from the get go?  Though it's more likely that I am wrong.

  • You can use the bassinet attachment but the infant seat is so convenient especially when you're running errands. That way you don't have to take LO in and out of the car seat.
I didn't use the stroller for about a month or so though so you may be able to hold out. But like @sweett11 said that may have been because of the cold and flu worries.
  • You could always buy a cheap snap & go (if the peg is compatible with that) and you could leave it in your car to use with the infant seat when running errands / to the doctor.

I'm sure you're right, I didn't think about the bassinet attachment (I use the Britax B Agile with the infant seat).  Maybe it's the jogging stroller I was confused with ;).

Like PP said, is there a cheap snap and go that is compatible?

I wore LO for the first while so I think it would be fine to wait until October. Can you get one on rush somehow or pre order ?

We'll actually that was all thanks to the csection and not being allowed to lift the seat ...so....I guess I might have used the seat a lot more in the first 6 weeks.........

Never mind my opinion then !

  • I only used the infant seat with my snap n go. It was easier than the stroller.

  • You can always get a snap and go thing until it's released? The new light Peg is totally worth it!
  • Agree with the cheap snap and go. She slept so much the first few months that I had the car seat in the stroller for most errands. Uppababy doesn't always roll out when they say they will. Learned that with the Mesa!

I would hate to buy a cheap snap & go when I'm already spending so much on a stroller and infant seat.

It sounds like it's unrealistic to move them from the infant seat to the stroller? Is it really that cumbersome?

Only if they're sleeping & you want them to stay that way.
Which I do... Ugh...  I'm just going to end up buying something I don't want and being frustrated I can't use the stroller as often as I'd like.  But it's my own fault because I don't want to change strollers or car seats.

It's not terrible but say he's sleeping, you'll have to wake him up when you take him out of the carrier and into the stroller. Obviously the stroller needs to be newborn compatible.
    yes, it is.

Like PP said, it's mostly not waking the baby up to transfer.  But some babies hate the infant seat, like Sooz said.  Mine happened to love it and I think she conked out as soon as she was in the car.  I can't imagine taking her out of the infant seat at that point...

(but seriously, you'll put so much thought into it and then whatever you decide will end up being ABSOLUTELY FINE :)

  • I didn't have a stroller for the first 5 months mainly bc it's freezing and snowy where I live until April. So I lugged my LO around in her infant car seat or I wore her. I wish I had just bought a cheap snap and go to use for a few months. And by 6 months I was using my stroller and still wearing her but rarely putting the infant seat into the stroller.

It seems like it would be a hassle to load up the stroller + bassinet attachment into the car and unload as well as transferring back and forth a sleeping baby. Especially as it gets colder.

  • I adore the Vista, but I have to say, the bassinet is fairly cumbersome. I only used it twice (on the stroller - he slept it in every night for the first two months, when he got too long for if). It's really cute (it's practically half the reason I wanted thre Vista), but it's big and pretty hard to move it around. I lived on the third floor with no elevator, so my big challenge was getting it downstairs with the baby in it - it was awkward and always a little scary! It was also so big that navigating around a small cafe or shop was hard. If you live in a house, I think you'd totally use the bassinet to stroll around the neighborhood, but I think you'd be happier using the car seat to navigate around a store or wherever, and I wouldn't want to drag the bassinet in and out of the car. Of course, as others already said, my baby regularly fell asleep in the carseat for the first few months and it was great not having to wake him up. Oh, and my husband was convinced that the baby was warmer in the car seat (with blanket and cover) than in the bassinet (also with blanket and cover), since there was so much air around the baby in the bassinet. That said, you can use bunting in the bassinet, but not in the carseat (at least not it in the car - the whole issue with the down squishing in a crash). I will note that we did go to the Vista toddler seat fairly early - maybe around 3 months? You can tilt the seat back to a full recline. If you buy the infant insert, I think you can use it that way from birth. That doesn't solve the issue of transferring the sleeping baby, though.
  • I still use the travel system car seat as it's good for up to 25 lbs., although he doesn't really like riding in it so we only use it when we'll need it (when we'll have to transfer to a car).

Do you plan to take cabs with him while on the go? The snap and go infant seat is 100% necessary if you do. I'm still lost as to what we'll do this winter when we can't cab anymore.

    Grrrrr.

Yup, this. Our stroller was compatible but the snap n go was just so light & easy, I loved it! I used it til we got a convertible carseat. And I love using the actual stroller for her walks now, but for just running errands the snap n go was super easy.
  • We used ours a lot. It's really handy bc LO always falls asleep in the car and that way you don't have to wake them up.

  • Just an FYI for you, the adapters for the Uppababy felt awfully flimsy to me. I felt like our Maxi Cosi set up a little too high with them. I tried the Uppababy car seat with our stroller and it didn't sit the same way. It felt much more secure.
You may want to play with different adapters and seats to see if you're comfortable with how they attach to the stroller.
