Cloth Diapering

New to this board and cloth diapering, question about prep.

Hello! I'm an active member on the August '14 mommas and have just started on the cloth diaper path. My first order arrived today so I put them in the wash to prep. After they were already in there I read that I should separate the microfiber diapers from the cotton and hemp. Did I ruin the microfiber ones?? What can I do to save them??

Re: New to this board and cloth diapering, question about prep.

  • One wash won't ruin them, maybe pull them out for subsequent washes. The oils from natural fibers are supposed to impact absorbency in microfiber if they're prepped together, but to be honest I've never been diligent about separating and never had an issue. But, I'm a lazy prepper.

  • Oh! I wanted to add that microfiber doesn't have to be "prepped" so much as washed once before it's used.
  • Good to know!! Thanks!
  • You are probably fine. I'd just pull the microfiber out and re-wash once with detergent. Then continue prepping the natural fibers.

  • You can also prep the natural fabrics with your next load of whites, towels, sheets, etc.
