Babies: 0 - 3 Months

What do you think?

So today, I'm here at my step sister's house and making her baby essential list. Were almost done, but were having a hard in what thermometer. We've decided to choose the forehead thermometer. I'm done doing some research and most moms prefer this type of thermometer. So what do you think?

Re: What do you think?

  • FWIW, my mom is a pediatric nurse and said those are really hard to get an accurate reading with. She recommended just getting a standard digital and taking underarm or rectal temps.

  • We have one. It seems to be pretty accurate. We get the same temp multiple times in a row. It's at least as accurate as our standard digital one and it's much quicker to use. We have an Exergen brand one.

  • I also like the forehead thermometer.  The hospital recovery room (outside the OR) uses a version of a forehead thermometer, so I figure they must be fairly accurate.
  • I bought the forehead one and find it hard to get an accurate temp. I have since invested in an ear thermometer and it is the best. Super easy and reliable.

  • We used a digital rectal thermometer on DS for maybe the 1st year, then switched to the forehead exergen one.  I felt like when he was really young, the rectal was reliably accurate and I was never second guessing the reading.

  • The forehead one is fun and easy, but sometimes it read very high and freaked us out.  We had an inexpensive digital that we could use to double check.
  • A rectal thermometer for under 1year
  • We have an ear thermometer (left over from LO#1), but I've never really trusted it.

  • I like the ear thermometer. I know rectal is the most accurate but I was too worried about hurting baby to buy one.

  • I have an ear thermometer that I use with my older children but would use the rectal for infants.

  • I have one and I love it. across the forehead isn't that hard to get an accurate reading, you just have to make sure you follow the directions to a T
  • I use rectal until 6 mo. That's how my pedi does it in the office so that's how I do it at home. For my older child I put it under her arm
