I got the merina put in almost 2 weeks ago. I'm experiencing insomnia, hot flashes, anxiety, extreme irritabilityand am constantly on the verge of tears. I'm pretty sure it's all related to the mirena. Has anyone else that has it experienced these symptoms?

I seem to be ok hormonally/emotionally but I think it may be sort of killing my sex drive. I don't know if its the mirena or the lack of sleep and returning to work this week though. I wish I didn't have to use any sort of birth control that contains hormones but I'm to afraid of a third baby right now.

Everyone has a different experience though. Maybe ask your Doctor.

This is my second Mirena. I don't remember the first time around feeling any of those symptoms, but I think our hormones are still trying to work themselves out. I do remember hot flashes, but I think it was my body adjusting to this type of birth control. This time around, it's been a lot better, just a little cramping. I think our reactions will all be a little different though... I hope it resolves itself for you! I was told that the amount of hormone in the iud is so small, it should not be having extreme side effects. If it doesn't resolve in the next couple weeks, definitely talk to your Obgyn.

Yep, I experienced all if those symptoms and then some on mirena. Never again.

Awww im sorry you are having these issues. I was terrified to get one. I have had it for a week or so with no issues. so far I'm loving it..My Dr. Did tell me it can take up to 6 months for the body to adjust. That was the case with my friend. She hated it the first four months or so... But loves it

Omg I can't make it months. I may not make it until Monday. Having this in its dangerous for me. The added sleep deprivation with the emotional issues it's causing is a serious problem.

I'm sitting in the drs office right now waiting waiting to get this thing out. It started drying up my breast milk. I had no idea that could be a side effect or I never would have gotten It.

Girl if it's that bad don't wait until Monday, tell them you need to be see now or go to an ER to get it taken out and explain how dangerous you think it is for you emotionally right now

I had my follow up from my insertion yesterday . They can't find it and there's a chance I could be pregnant. Ultrasound next friday and possibly x rays. No pain but annoying bleeding. Not light but not period like either. Yay I get to wait over a week to find out wtf is going on. Ugh. I had mirena before and it was great. So manny possibilities with it missing. Did it fall out ... & like how the f*** did I not notice . Too early if I get/ am pregnant for a urine test. But omg I have the chance of having two under 1. I want another baby but I got the IUD because truthfully we can barely afford our first and I figured wait a few years.

Mine went all the way through the uterus and I don't know if it was the surgery or the hormones in the IUD, but I had some supply issues for a couple of weeks even after it was fished out. Maybe they can squeeze you in sooner since you are having so much trouble with the side effects.

Yay not pregnant.

had an extensive ultrasound. Its in place but the strings are up in my uterus. So when I go to have it removed it will be a minor surgery because they wont have the strings to pull it out. Applied for a grad program today. Baby #2 won't come until after I'm done with my masters.
