NCDR: coffee filters

I use one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Melitta-Ready-Single-Coffee-Brewer/dp/B0014CVEH6/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1411496964&sr=8-5&keywords=mellita+coffee
with disposable filters.  Seems like I am buying filters all. the. time.  Just wondering if there is another option?  The reusable filter I saw on Amazon people have said that coffee particles go through the screen.  Some even use disposable filters with it- no point in that IMO.  Suggestions?

Re: NCDR: coffee filters

  • Do you grind your own beans?  If so, just grind them a tad bit less and get the reusable filter.  We use the reusable filter with our coffeemaker.....if I grind the beans too fine, more will go through, but really it's not that bad.  I actually brew slightly more than 2 mugfuls for just this reason, so that I don't have to pour the bottom gritty stuff into my cup, lol.

  • I make the coffee right into my cup.  It's a pour over for one cup at a time.  So I am worried about coffee particles.  But that's a good idea to grind the beans myself.

@Chickypoo2468 Did you buy your organic cotton filter or make it?  If you bought it, where did you get it?  And how does it work- how do you clean the grinds out, etc.
  • Unless you buy a really expensive grinder an at home grind is going to make a fair amount of coffee dust, even on a coarse setting. That's where the sludge comes from. I've used the gold reusable filters before and always thought it was fine. But I guess I'm just used to it. The sludge free as Eat is what I love about my aeropress.

  • I was just looking at the cotton and hemp ones on Etsy.  I didn't know such a thing exsisted.  That's why I love asking you ladies questions.  Thanks MK!
