Anti nausea meds ?

Maybe this is a stupid question but...Do they help with the nausea or are they mainly for throwing up?  I'm not throwing up but I am nauseous 24/7 and not eating much.  I'm pretty thin to begin with and I'm already loosing weight.  I can't really afford to keep loosing weight.

  • I was on zofran last pregnancy and I found that it would help prevent nausea a little as long as you took it before you were nauseas. But if you were already sick, it made no difference at all. that's why this time around i'm trying to avoid the zofran. not really because studies or the fact that its a category c drug (what my ob said). i took it 24/7 with my daughter and shes perfect. but it just didn't HELP me enough. but i've heard other women say it changed their lives. so i think it varies.

    good luck!
  • oh also, if you aren't a nursing mom- look into diclegis. i heard good things.
  • I've heard good things about Papaya enzyme!
  • I've taken Zofran with both pregnancies. It doesn't completely get rid of the nausea. But it definitely takes the edge off for me.

  • I'm six 1/2 weeks.. Have a few days that r really bad... We also found out we are having twins, so of course the morning sickness can be worse.. The doctors gave me Diclegis, it really works.... Try it plus it's safe for pregnancy
  • diclegis didnt work for me. I think it depends on the person. Im on reglan now...not really helping either :(

  • The nurse yesterday did say that Diclegis causes drowsiness.  That's the last thing I need more of now ;)

  • Thanks ladies.  I wasn't aware that zofran was category c.  I hate taking meds while pregnant (I've already been on an antibiotic twice this pregnancy) but I'm really struggling to keep up with the kids and do everything I need to do.  It's just debilitating being so nauseous all the time.  I have to go on a hay ride with my 3 year old's preschool next week.  God give me the strength to not puke all over a group of 3 year olds.

  • I'm taking Diclegis and so far it has worked- the best that it can anyway.. I'm not sure anything helps that much.

Just got my Rx for this today. Going to try tonight for the first time. If it doesn't work, I may have to get a Zofran pump:/ hope it works!

  • @lala5507 Zofran is now category B. It was C when I was pregnant 3 years ago, but I looked it up the other week and saw it's now B.

Was just about to say this but you beat me to it! Zofran is category B.

  • I'm on 20 mg/day of omeprazole (Prilosec) - have been for years, and my high-risk OB said there's no reason to change it. It's category C, but I trust him! I found an article that agrees with him too, so I felt more at ease about it: https://www.webmd.com/baby/news/20101124/acid-reducing-drugs-may-not-be-risky-in-pregnancy

  • I'm currently on Diclegis at night and zofran as needed during the day. I'm still throwing up and nauseous but I'm now able to keep some food down and get myself out the door for at least a hour or so. My apt is Tuesday and I'm pretty sure the dr is going to suggest a new direction of treatment as I'm getting dehydrated and have lost 5lbs.

  • I think it varies between each person. I am still very nauseated on Zofran (8mg three times a day), but puking a lot less than before. I tried several other meds and dosages before we got to doing this dosage of Zofran. I am not a fan of meds, but I also need to be able to keep food down and fluids down, which was not happening without meds. I am down 8lbs since my nausea started 3 to 4 weeks ago. But only lost 1pound last week (the first week I was on Zofran), so definitely better.

Yup. DS is Tommy Pickles! Nothing like living with an escape artist.

  • For those on zofran, is it a fruity flavor? The first 45 minutes after my dose, I'm more nauseous than when I initially took it curtesy of the flavor. Yuck. I wish it was flavorless or mint. I like mint. I could pretent it's an Altoid then.
