Pregnant after 35

Ughh Braxton Hicks...

Anybody else dealing with that yet? I can't remember them being so uncomfortable OR starting this early last time around.... For a couple of days now my belly has been clenching and going rock hard every so often. And today on top of everything I'm also feeling stuff like period cramps and my back hurts (though that migh be from sitting curled on the couch). I'm sure the heat and chasing my crazy toddler around are not helping...

Re: Ughh Braxton Hicks...

  • Funny you mentioned this...a friend of mine on Facebook is around 22-24 wks. And her doctor told her she has Irritable Uterus. Might check it out. It is new to me. But it seems some of the symptoms mirror BHs.

  • How far along do these normally happen? I don't know much about them other than being told its your body "practising for labour" and I heard some people never get them
  • @junismum‌ I never had them until right at the very end of my 3 pregnancies. Like 3 weeks before I was due. Some women have them the last half.

  • @harmonicbabe26‌ Ah that is right...you did post about them. At that time I wasn't experiencing them. But yes. Rock hard is a good description. I talked to my friend last night and she is now 29 wks and they have her on bed rest. She has a history of premature labor. They still said it was irritable uterus but also BH. They check her every week and no dilating or effacing yet.

  • I had them starting around 14 weeks or so but don't have them as often lately. I am 24 weeks pregnant.
  • Same thing happened to me so I asked my doc. He said that they happen when you don't drink enough water. I'm guilty about that and when I started to drink more mine went away.
  • I don't remember having them with my first one at all, but ever since about 24 weeks with this one I have had them. And they are exactly the way you described. The last few weeks they come more often and a little more intense. BTW I am 37 weeks now. Try drinking lots of water and laying on your side.
  • I had them with my first pregnancy and I have them all the time now with this pregnancy too. I'm 25 weeks and I've been having them since 17 weeks. Same with previous pregnancy. I will say, this time around, they seem stronger, slightly painful/uncomfortable and I seem to get more of them. I asked my dr. about it and he wasn't concerned. Said it's normal. I do make sure to drink more water when I notice I've been having an abundance of them.  Sometimes they are so uncomfortable I swear it's a mild contraction! I can't even walk or move during...

    Oh the joys. :-)
  • I'm 24 weeks and have been having them for about 3 weeks.  I don't find them painful - I actually find it to be a good reminder to drink more water and it eases up.
  • Starting getting them about 16'weeks..if I do drink more tend to stop..had them today and yesterday too. They don't feel the best:(
