lonely moms club?

OK, so I'm a SAHM and am feeling really lonely. I was thinking of trying to start a small group on meet up to have moms with kids about the same age as mine come over to my house once a week for parental socialization while the kids play. If you saw a description about a small group in someone's home, would you go or find it creepy?

Our neighborhood uses nextdoor.com to connect. there, a SAHM announced a toddlers group and new babies group and asked people to email her if interested in group gatherings. She organized a big play date in the local park and a walk in the neighborhood for those home with babes during the day. That walk turned into a weekly gathering where different moms offer up their house as a meeting spot.

^WSS. My best friend became my best friend because her mom posted about a play group and my mom went. Of course, that was the 80s, but we are still friends today. You never know who you can meet!

Alternative suggestions..Check out meetup.com! They have tons of meet ups for kids and parents. I joined one for kids being raised bilingual. Meets biweekly. There is also a local gym for kids, I plan on going to the weekly class for babies (6wks-6mnths)

We do mom groups here, but the meetings are generally at the park or a fast food place with a playground (Chick-Fil-A what what!). The few that have been at people's houses are those who know each other really well. If someone I did not know invited me I would invite a friend and case the place before joining in. But people are also so willing to give out their addresses on Craigslist that you still might get some takers

Thanks guys! The first meeting being public is a great idea that I hadn't thought of. I tried meet up.com and the groups in this area are huge and hard to follow. I'll give next-door a shot, too!

I agree with everyone else, I'd probably feel more comfortable meeting in a public place the first few times and then going to someone's house.

I met a few moms at a program through our region. Yesterday we got together at one of their houses, it was great! However I don't think I would have gone without building the relationship first like we did.
