If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live and why?

Why do you love where you live now? What's the best part of your city/state?

Googled pics are fun to add too!!!

Re: GTKY: If you could live anywhere in the world...

  • I'd live in Alaska during the summer because it's beautiful there.  Maybe around Skagway, although Juneau was also lovely.

Pic I took on a visit to Skagway:

I apparently don't have my best Juneau photo uploaded and don't have time to find it in all the vay-cay pics right now.

During the winter I'd be fine living where I live now, which is Texas.  Because it's warmer than Alaska and I don't like to be too cold.

I love where I live now because it's fairly easy to drive around and navigate (I think), it generally doesn't get super cold in winter, and I guess I'm just used to it since I've lived here all my life. :)

I've aaaaaalways wanted to live in Italy. It's just so romantic and cozy. I've pictured me and my kids going shopping in the street markets and me fixing them hardy Italian meals. Me and DW taking walks under the street lights and enjoying all that Italy has to offer. Plus, my father was born and raised in Italy so, it's be nice to see and know part of where I come from.

As for my city (philadelphia), it can be scary at times and apparently, there's a lot of murdering going on too at times. But, I am very happy to say that I've never encountered any form of attack in my life other than verbally. Downtown Philly is the shit. When I was growing up, I went downtown a lot and started learning my way around the area. It got boring for a bit until I turned 21 and could actually get into places lol. Now I'm still discovering clubs, bars and other social activities. There's a lot of history in a lot of the buildings which is just beautiful to look at. Like rittenhouse square or old city. We've also got some incredibly fancy and incredibly delicious foods. I've always wanted to move into one of the apartments down there but, I would forever be in debt if I did lol. But it can really be a charming and fun place to be. Especially during the holiday season when the christmas lights are up. And it's also a damn fabulous spot for wedding pictures. Just sayin...

  • If I could live anywhere in the world it would be in a town about 1hr away from where we currently live. It's just bigger and has a lot more to do/more opportunities than our current town. I love living in Northern California, the weather is pretty close to perfect to me. It doesn't hurt being close to some of the best wine in the world either!

  • If I cod live anywhere, it would be anywhere where winter is non-existent... But I love France.

I live in champaign, illinois. We have the university of illinois here so this town has everything anyone could need even though we are 2.5 hours away from Chicago. It's nice here. Illinois as a state sucks though.

If I could live anywhere, I'd probably flit from place to place. I'm a total traveller at heart but I love Barcelona so possibly there or possibly somewhere in north Yorkshire in the UK.

I live in the middle of (nowhere, literally) north Weare, NH right now and there is nothing here but it's beautiful, especially in fall when the leaves turn. We have a great bit of land with space for all the kids and critters so I shouldn't complain! I will now spam with pics:

  • If I could live anywhere I would live in the boonies of kentucky. I'm a tomboy country girl at heart and I have always loved the natural beauty in kentucky and it's unique smell in the mornings.

As for where we live now, there isn't much that I like. We live in a neighborhood in a small city. The best thing is that we are close to the grocery store. We live here because it is financially smart, but would prefer to be living in the country and have actually been looking for a place in the country. I'm on mobile and it doesn't like me to upload pics or I would.

  • If I could live anywhere it would probably be England. I visited England years ago and just loved it, especially the countryside.

I live on Long Island, which used to be great when I was a kid. 20 minutes from NYC and 15 minutes from the beach. Now it is too congested, people are nasty, and the neighborhood I live in is going downhill. Plus it's way too expensive to live here. We are moving down to Charlotte, North Carolina in six months or so and I can't wait. The people are nicer, the housing is more affordable, it's a slightly slower pace of life, and a great area to raise a family.

If I could live anywhere in the world I would want a summer house AND a winter house. A summer house in Paris to take in all the sites, eat amazing buttery foods and pastries, and take in all the history and culture. In the winter I would want to be somewhere tropical and warm, with a beach. Not too picky there.

As far as where I'm at now, I don't call it "home" since I'm here for school. I'm in Chicago area, which is great. The city has a lot to offer and there is always something to do, but I'm from Indiana and love wide open spaces, green fields, beautiful changing fall leaves, old covered bridges, and great lakes.image

  • I think if I could live anywhere, it would be St. Simon's Island, GA.  I've visited several times and just love that little beach town.  It seems like a relaxing place to live and raise a family.

I live in Lancaster, PA and I really love it.  Yes, there are more Amish buggies that travel down my road than cars, but that's part of the charm.  I love all the roadside stands with fresh produce throughout the summer.  I also love that I live in the country but Lancaster City is 10 minutes down the road so I don't have to sacrifice the convenience of having things nearby.

Oh and also, it's fair week.  The best week of the whole year.  I love street fairs.

I live in southern New Hampshire. I have lived in the same area my whole life and I love it. NH is very pretty, with covered bridges, the white mountains, autumn foliage and four seasons. I really dislike winter but spring and summer are great as it actually gets quite hot. Autumn is absolutely gorgeous with the foliage (if you're into that I guess). We have many beautiful lakes too. I'm in a pretty small city but there's good shopping and the like within an hour or so in any direction. Oh, and no sales tax! I'd love to live on Cape Cod. It's so pretty and I love the water. And the chips. Eta: can't spell
    Yay! a fellow free-stater!

Agreed, no sales tax is a good thing too!
  • If I could live anywhere in the world, I would 100% without a thought live in Italy. I lived there for 4 months in college when I did my study abroad and I absolutely loved it. The country is beautiful no matter where you are. I lived in Rome, and would definitely want to live there again and travel around.

Right now, I live in Brooklyn, New York. The best part of living here is definitely being so close to Manhattan, and the diversity. In the city, you can find any type of food you could ever dream of...it's truly amazing!

  • I'd live right in downtown Charleston. Or maybe Key West!

  • I don't know if I could choose! Chicago in the summer. Maybe napa in the Spring and Fall. For winter somewhere south, maybe even a beach. Anywhere that I can get great food and still be outdoors a lot without it being freezing.

  • Where we live now (Wales) we love it and it is home for me
However I could easily do another stint in Jo'burg
