puss pocket on finger

Has anyone ever seen or heard of these before? I picked DD from the sitter and she had a bandaid on so i inquired what had happened. She said she noticed her finger tip (around the cuticle) was swollen and had a green head on it so they did "surgery" on it. DD is 18 months and has never had this before. I trust the sitter implicitly and DD was sure to tell me ouchy when i went to take the bandaid off. Well after bath i went to put another bandaid on and it was swollen and looked to be infected again. i put some alcohol on it, let it air out while we did lotion and clothes, then washed her hand before putting on a bandaid. Its still there and i just dont know how to help her! Has anyone had this happen? how can i fix it? Does it warrant a trip to the doctor? I hadnt even noticed until the sitter said something. She is so much more well behaved for the sitters so i want to come through as super mom and heal her lol. Help!

Re: puss pocket on finger

  • If there is truly pus I would at least call the doctors office and see if they want to see her. When they are little and touching everything I would guess an infection is easy to get on a hand or finger and might be a little harder to get rid of. She may need an antibiotic. Good luck

  • Sounds like a paronychia, it is nothing to panic about, and they are very common.  A lot of times the Doctor will drain these and start an antibiotic.  I definitely would not suggest opening it yourself, or at daycare.  Google paronychia, and see if that is what it looks like.
