Anyone dealing with gallbladder issues?

I remember there were a few in the beginning, wondering if there is anyone still dealing with gallbladder issues/gallstones from pregnancy?

I've had 4 attacks, the first one when LO was 3 weeks old, it was worse than labor! I actually had no idea what was happening either. I've had a few more since then, and I'm having surgery to get it removed this week :-SS

Re: Anyone dealing with gallbladder issues?

  • I started having issues about 2 months after DS was born and had it removed when he was 5 months old. The doctor ended up having trouble cauterizing one if the incision points so healing time was longer and crazy painful and unable to breath while laying for several days. It's not common to have issues, I just seem to have crazy issues when it comes to medical stuff.

  • I'm not but it's because I had my gallbladder removed years ago. It's def a good idea to have it taken out, especially if you've had so many attacks. It was one of the best decisions I made. They did it laparoscopically. I only took the weekend off (had my surgery on a Friday) but I was in college and working 2 jobs with no PTO. Good luck- I'm sure you'll do great!!
  • Just searched your post! I had a terrible attack last night that landed me in the hospital where they confirmed I have a gallbladder full of stones... Yuck! I meet with a surgeon on Wednesday to plan next steps.
  • @mamakiss‌ how did your surgery go? Was it laparoscopic? Was the healing time long?
  • What do the attacks feel like? I think I've been having a lot..

I would venture to say at it's height worse than labor or at least equivalent. Mine started in the center of my abdomen (right below the ribs) and got so tight that I felt a lot of pressure in my chest and thought "OMG I'm way too young to be having a heart attack"! Then I begin to get violently I'll and threw up multiple times until I was given a zofran and then a narcotic through IV. I am being very careful with what I eat until this gets resolved because I don't want another attack.

    What have you been feeling?
  • Well I'd much rather go through labor for sure. It starts just beneath my sternum, but radiates to its sides, up my chest and down my belly. It's so bad, nothing helps, aside from laying on my left side and rocking- that makes it bearable. It's achy, crampy type feeling but so much worse, and comes in waves of bad pain to excruciating.

  • @TricksyPixie‌ Sounds like you may be dealing with the same thing. I would make an appointment with your doctor. They start with a blood test and then will order an ultra sound if needed. Until you get checked try to eat a low fat diet because breaking down fatty foods can bring on another attack.

    Good luck!
  • Thanks. I'm uninsured until December, though.

  • It was awful! Worst pain ever and they didn't figure it out until 4 years later!

  • @missyrissy‌ I don't know how you survived 4 years of attacks! OMG that is awful. Did you end up getting it out?

I met with the surgeon today and have the surgery Friday morning.
