Co sleeping mommas

Hey there, I want to preface this with just wanting input from co-sleeping moms. I know this can be a controversial subject, not looking for drama. My question is, did you put baby in co sleep bed? I didn't last time and just had him next to me but have been wondering about getting the bed. Re: Co sleeping mommas

  • I think some people are making a distinction between co-sleeping and bed sharing now. We co-slept by having baby in the room with us either in his crib or in an Arm's reach co-sleeper that we had sidecar to our bed until he was about 7 months old. Then we moved to bed sharing, him sleeping in our actual bed.

We used this website as a reference when we moved to DS1 sleeping in the bed with us.

  • Great reference that's actually what we did last time too. Once he got old enough to nurse side lying it was awesome. I will look up the arms reach co sleeper for the beginning

  • We are using the Arms Reach CoSleeper. I'm excited because it's about as close to bed sharing as I feel comfortable with. I love moms who can bed-share but I'm way to paranoid lol.
  • We used that for DD#2 and it was great until she was about 3-4 months or so. She would scooch down and start coming over towards me. We are using the Halo bassinet this time since DD#2 still climbs in bed with us at some point most nights. It's pricy but is pretty awesome, I love how you can pull it over the bed.

  • We used the Arm's Reach CoSleeper with DS. It was borrowed, so this time we are going to use the pack and play or the rock-n-play. At some point my DS just ended up in bed with us so I wouldn't be surprised if that happened again. We eventually did a side car with his crib when he got too big for all of us to sleep comfortably together.

@kindacrunchy I am so jealous of your Halo! Those look incredible.

  • We only coslept for a few months, but I wasn't comfortable with bed sharing.  We used the RNP for a little while and then transitioned to the Arms Reach co-sleeper which just went right next to the bed.

  • We co slept and did bed sharing (which was one of those things I said I would never do when I had a baby...lol). We always started her out in the bassinet next to my side of the bed and usually the second time she woke up at night to nurse I'd bring her into bed with me to nurse her side lying. Usually we would both fall asleep like that. I always made sure the blankets and pillows were no where near her. Also, I was so hyper-aware of her in the bed next to me that if either of us moved I would wake up, and often move her back into the bassinet then. This only lasted until we moved her into her crib in her own room at 8 weeks, so she wasn't developed enough to roll anywhere in our bed when she was in it. Once she was in her own room, I'd typically go into her room and do MOTN feedings in there, until her 5am wake up, when I'd just bring her back to bed with me to nurse her and we would both fall back asleep for another hour or
Two. Her being in bed with us starting around dawn lasted for at least a few months.

We went with the Halo too. I love that she can be right there, but has enough separation that I won't be too paranoid to sleep.

We bedshared with DS until he turned 2. Never owned a crib. Followed Dr. James McKenna's bedsharing safety guidelines (Mother-Baby Behavioral Sleep Laboratory, Notre Dame). I really loved the closeness and felt that I got more sleep, since DS could basically help himself to nursing. Lol

We intend to bedshare with this LO as well, but decided to buy an inexpensive crib from IKEA to sidecar next to our bed. We figured the extra space and the safety barrier (for when I'm out of bed during the night tending to DS1) were a good reason to go ahead and get a crib, and we also wanted to lessen the possible jealousy DS may have for his little brother sleeping in our bed...I think it will make a big difference to DS that his brother has his own bed, even if he never sleeps there and it's more symbolic. Just that he has his own bed and his bed isn't "mommy and daddy's bed". Does that make sense?

We still need to get the mattress and some crib sheets, but this is what we're going for:

ETA: we've had the crib next to our bed since the weekend and DS refers to it as "the baby bed" or "little brother's bed." Plan seems to be working so far.

  • This is super helpful thanks for all the great options. I had never originally planned on him sleeping in our bed but it ended up working best that way for us for many reasons. He always started out in his crib and ended up in our bed. But I do like the idea of some sort of side bed option at least in the very beginning. Keeping baby as close as possible but not in our bed. Love all the feedback here thanks ladies! I was nervous to post about this.

  • I just feel in love with the halo bassinet swivel sleeper. Expensive but looks well worth it. Anyone find them less than $220?

Nope I kept my eye on it for a few weeks on Amazon and it went up from $229 to $249 so I rushed over to RightStart.com and bought it at $229 since that is who it is sold through on Amazon. It's went back down to $229 on Amazon though. Part of my justification for buying it is that it will probably holds its value pretty well and I can sell it when we are through with it since it doesn't get used that long.

  • My DD slept in her bassinet next to the bed till she was about 3 months. Then is was easier to wake up for feedings while she was in our bed. But she slept with me till almost 4 :( this time I'm not letting LO sleep with me. Unless it's day time naps. I had to hard of a time getting DD to sleep on her own.

It got here in two days from rightstart but it shipped from one state away for me.

  • We bedshare for the first year. We sidecarred the crib with DD#1 for a while but our room (since moving) isn't big enough.

The babies have each started the night in the rock n play but get moved in with me once they wake to nurse. It feels most natural to DH and I so that's what we do :)

Naps will be in the rock n play, the play pen or in a carrier. We no longer own a crib (The girls all sleep on a king size mattress on the floor which they LOVE!!)
