Pregnant after IF

If you have endo, what happened during your pregnancy?

I have crazy stage IV endo, like my insides are scarred and sticking together kind of endo. They measured the endometrioma I have on my left ovary during my ultrasound on Monday, and it was still there looking big, but I didn't ask for the measurements.

I hadn't really thought much about my endo, since it is not really bothering me much right now. This in itself is sort of crazy since my estrogen level is around 2000, which I would think would make the endo act up and be mad.

All this to say, I'm just wondering what is happening with your endo during pregnancy. I'm also curious if there is anyone who has an endometrioma; did pregnancy shrink it, make it worse, or did it stay the same?

Re: If you have endo, what happened during your pregnancy?

  • I'm not as far along as you, so I can't tell you much about my experience...but everything I've heard is that pregnancy helps with endo.  It does not make it worse.  My mother's endo problems lessened after she had me, and the only complications she had during pregnancy was some heavy bleeding on and off.

  • I will be watching this thread! The only thing I've noticed so far is that where I've had endo removed has been hurting a bit (like 2 on a 1-10 scale, but definitely noticeable). OB confirmed today that this can happen when there's scarring. She said that even adhesions rarely cause problems, but it can me mildly painful.

Hope your endometrioma shrinks to nothing!

I only had stage two but I did have really painful periods, like debilitating, feeling like I was in labor painful. And also had pain in between periods before getting pregnant. • Before my 4th embryo transfer I actually had a large endometria removed b/c I was told it can effect the quality of your eggs. I was told by my RE that the ONLY way to stop the spread of endometriosis is to either A) be on birth control pills or B) Get pregnant. He told me I was best to do a IVF cycle directly after removing endometriosos b/c pregnancy keeps it away. I haven't felt ANY different since being pregnant. No pain, no issues pertaining to endo at all.

@gsancho That is great that it helped your mom so much. If you don't mind me asking- did she have any trouble conceiving and did she have any other pregnancies after her first?

@pblge I hope this endometrioma disappears!!! Seriously she is such a b**ch. Interesting about the scarring, my endo is mostly around my ovaries and I had adhesions removed in January. As my uterus is expanding I've been feeling some minor pains around my ovaries, now I'm thinking that might be from scar tissue?

@MKateG Good to hear that your endo has not been bothering you. I also wonder what will happen after this pregnancy (fingers crossed and prayers that everything goes alright), and if the pain will subside at all. I even wonder if there will be any positive effects fertility wise--wishful thinking I suppose.

@SKLH I feel that there is such differences in the way RE's handle endometriomas. It is a bit of a catch 22. If you remove you might remove valuable ovarian tissue, and if you don't the endometrioma might grow and take over the ovary. There seems to be no right answers, since we both ended up with good results...Yay for no pain!

I was an oopsie...she didn't even know she was pregnant for 3 months b/c she kept bleeding quite a bit.  But I was her only.  I know at other times in her life when she had tried, she didn't have success, and doctors had told her she probably wouldn't be able to conceive...so that's why she'd stopped paying attention to her cycles.

She got divorced when I was a wee little one and remarried in her 40s, so no other babies.
