Can you still take a bubble bath once dilating has started?

So can we still take a bubble bath once dilation has started? I wouldn't be surprised if the answer was no. As of last week I wasn't dilated but cervix was softening. I've had a lot of cramping this week and my next appt is tomorrow. I better get one last relaxing bath in quick as I feel like my body is working hard to get things started!

Congrats to everyone who has delivered! And congrats to us all for making it in one sane piece this far!!! We're almost there :D I've felt really panicky lately as I'm a FTM and having a little one rely on me from now on has set in. For some reason this week I feel more at peace. I can do this!!

  • This was brought up yesterday in the Randoms thread, and I believe someone (Emerald) said as long as your water hasn't broken, it's fine.

But, check with your doctor tomorrow to be sure.

  • @Jennyc00 Tag me when you find out. I have avoided the bath since i was told I was dilated monday, but I didn't want to call the office for something small like that, that I can just avoid anyway. A long relaxing bubble bath sounds great though.

ETA- and as long as it's not too hot, of course ;)

But at that point the baby is coming out, so it may be a bit different.

  • I think as long as your water isn't broken it's ok. I don't think I'd want to mix bubble bath and amniotic fluids together, just as a precaution, kwim?

  • I agree- the hot water part is fine after your water has broken.  It is very common in the natural birth circles to hear about mom's laboring in the tub or shower (even if they aren't planning on an actual water birth).  My guess would be that you'll want to avoid soap and other stuff in the water once your water has broken so you can lessen the chances of infection.

  • My OB said it was fine, but not to use anything fragrant that normally irritates or dries out your skin. So I wouldn't try anything new, but I'm take a bubble bath almost every night to ease my back pain.

I would agree with no bubbles or soap but Dr. knows best.

  • Dr suggested a warm bath for me last week to help with some pelvic pain, even though I'm already dilating. I would ask about bubbles but I'd think you'd be fine.

  • Youre good girl. Just not too hot.
  • I would just avoid bubbles.
