December 2014 Moms

Pity party. I feel I look disgusting.

And the lack of maternity sections in stores is really upsetting. I'm almost in tears in dressing room. I have a wedding tomorrow. It's going to be under 60 degrees. All of those cute summer dresses won't do it. None of my regular stuff fits... Even the stretchy stuff. No one has maternity clothes in stores. I'm forced to wear something too tight that I'm busting out of.

  • Destination Maternity??  They usually have cute dresses.  Also Nordstroms.  I don't know where you're located?

  • I'm so sorry. I was in a wedding the other weekend and I told my husband I had never felt uncomfortable with how I looked before but I did in that bridesmaid dress. I saw the pictures the other day and yep. Looked like a big fat blob. It was enough to make me sob uncontrollably for about fifteen minutes. So I totally get it. Could you find a nice cardigan that you could wear with the summery dress???
  • I'm so sorry! Trying to find anything I feel flattering in these days is a challenge. My boss makes us wear a uniform purple shirt every friday. Mine is about 2 inches from being a midriff but he won't let me wear anything else and said I should have ordered a bigger one last time we ordered. He's really going to regret that in a couple of weeks when it looks just plain ridiculous and I will refuse to change it because "I should have ordered differently."

Tried on 22 dresses at DM. Nordstrom is where I cried because they didn't have a maternity section.

  • I'm sorry. I know the feeling. I had to get a dress to wear to DH's graduation and it was a pain in the ass. I ended up dropping like $50 on something that while cute I will never wear again. I would totally give it to you if you were in the south jersey area.

    $50? Try $200

  • Have you tried Target? They one here has maternity section, but it is kinda limited. You might be able to find a non-expensive dress there. Good luck dear!

Yeah, there's no way I'd be spending that on a dress I will never wear again. Under normal circumstances, maybe. But definetely not on a maternity dress because I never plan on being pregnant again.
It's not even maternity. It's a dress I hate that fits and is 3 sizes bigger than normally wear.

  • What state are you in? I would wear a nice dress, get maternity panty hose (usually hate them, but if it's cold necessary) and a nice sweater.

  • Ugh I'm so sorry... I'm also getting to that point and it's not fun to feel just blah. Does your Kohls have a maternity section? I got a dress for a wedding this summer there that's very flattering and could easily be dressed up with heels and cute jewelry.

I agree with @gradschoolmom1234‌ I got a mani/pedi last weekend and felt awesome afterwards!
  • I feel your pain, I went to a wedding last weekend and purchased 3 dresses to end up with one that I felt mediocre in. Getting my hair and makeup done also helped me with this.

Another option may be a black pencil skirt with a nice top - that might be easier to find than a dress? Good luck! If you're in the NYC area, I would definitely lend you a dress.

  • I cried when my jeans wouldnt go on. SO thinks im crazy and i mean i guess hes not all wrong. But living in a tiny town the maternaty sections are like one rack a store. So im pretty much stuck with yoga pants and my boyfriends tees.

I'll tell you what my big sister told me. You're beautiful and you'll forget how bad you felt when you hold your little one :)
  • I just don't get it. Thanks for the support, girls. I was in such a funk. When I got home, tossed on my maternity spanx-ish things and put on the dresses I bought today, I felt ok. I'm just not used to Feeling so self-conscious. Ugh. We are all beautiful, blah blah...xo

  • I like the gap. They are the same clothes but longer. It is probably too late but I vote for summer dress and a cardigan.
  • Sorry the shopping sucked so much. I also had to shop for a dress for a wedding today and it was all kinds of not fun. I'm glad it's a little better now that you're home.

  • Ugh, I understand. I looked all over for maternity stuff in my city and all I found was three racks at the Sears (full of ugly stuff). I know I need more clothes now that I'm getting much bigger and it's getting colder but I that means driving for an hour to find it so I keep putting it off. Bleh, good luck to you! I'm sure you'll look adorable in whatever you find to wear. At least everyone will be looking at your bump and not your outfit.

  • I feel your pain. I cried when the dress I ordered online to wear to a wedding/formal event this and next week showed up too big. I took it to get altered and still look as big as a house. Then I cried because I had to go get my license photo retaken at the dmv. It's hard getting presentable for formal events or photos when you don't feel like your "normal" self.

Why just plan a wedding when you can plan a baby AND a wedding?
  • It's online so it won't help in this situation, but has anyone ordered from pinkblushmaternity.com? Free returns and shipping, inexpensive and cute stuff! They usually have some sort of sale going on, too!
  • Much as it sucks maybe pants?  Had to go to a January wedding in Wi while pregnant and the best I could do was black pants and dressy sweater.  Felt under-dressed, but it was cold and it's only one day.  Didn't want to stress over a dress.

@leosmom25 ugh. Your boss sounds like a dhurpface.  Because ya know work isn't challenging enough, lets make the pregnant lady wear something that makes her uncomfortable.  Unless the purple shirt is encrusted with diamonds or something I can't imagine it would be that cost prohibitive to order a new one and have employees be comfortable while working - i just dont get that thought process.
  • I think I'd feel like my grandmother if I wore pants to a wedding. I'm en route to RI for the wedding now. I packed 3 of the 5 dresses I bought yesterday, per DH's recommendation. And I learned that I can't cry to him about being upset about the way I look and saying things like "I'm over this" and "I'm ready to be done" because he took that to mean that I didn't feel pregnancy was worth it because of shallow (my word, not his) reasons. He doesn't get the way the physical changes can really impact you. Cause he's not a girl. So, I may cry here when I'm having a particularly pitiful day. Sorries in advance.

  • @jjaxbie yeah my boss is a total douche. Next Friday when I have to wear the stupid shirt I'll take a picture and post it here. It looks ridiculous. Hell no there's no diamonds, it's an effing golf shirt with our logo embroidered.

@crysteen I'm so sorry your H isn't being supportive. Honestly, men don't understand. I told MH last night I was tired of my ass growing as fast as my belly and he told me I knew what I was getting myself into. Yeah, cuz that's what us pregnant women want to hear. Cry to us any day, men are stupid!

  • I'm so sorry! See if there is a Target in RI when you get there. They have some cute black, knee-length, maternity dresses that you could wear with tights and heels. Throw on a fab necklace and kickass hairdo and you are done! No one will question a pregnant lady in a stretchy black dress.

  • I am way late on posting as you already went to the wedding! But you are not alone - I did the dress shopping thing this weekend...lots of tears and I want to punch anyone who tells me I look good because all I see is Shamu in the mirror.  For the future though I ended up with a stretchy material short sleeved dress from Macy's - its not perfect but it was the best I found.  It wasn't maternity and is close enough to my normal size that I just might be able to wear it again.

I hope you were able to have a good time - sorry for the pregancy weight blues :(

  • I HATE shopping for maternity clothes. I’ll avoid it until the last minute. I was in a wedding this past weekend and paid more to get the dress altered than I paid for purchasing the damn dress. It’s a cute dress that I would actually attempt to wear again if I could. I ordered it two sizes too big and while fit great on the bottom, but from the waist up it was a hot mess. I legit could have stuffed my bra with bags of potato chips.
