Where is your baby sleeping/napping?

Hello, all.  We have started putting together our bigger purchases/gifts like our swing, pack n play, etc..  I'm thinking of putting our pack n play in our bedroom for sleeping/changing the first 8 weeks or so.  Our nursery is right across the hall from our room so baby will go into crib after that.  Then downstairs, I was going to set up our swing and rock n play for cat naps throughout the day.  What is everyone else planning to do?  I guess I could switch them up too?  PnP downstairs, RnP upstairs?  Thoughts?

Just looking for some advice and opinions.  I thought that was what public forums were for.  My apologies for misunderstanding if I have irked you.
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Most likely our baby will sleep in a bassinet in our room until at least 3 months. It will depend on how he/she is sleeping at night and how we're doing with breastfeeding. Baby will go into his or her own crib after that. The bassinet is on wheels, so during the day for naps I'll bring it out into the main part of the house so baby can get used to sleeping through some noise.
  • Our house is small so the crib will be going in our room and the RnP for when he is little and I want him right next to the bed the swing will be in the living room but I will alternate napping in all three probably.

  • This is the plan, but we'll see what happens when LO arrives.

We will have a rock 'n play in our bedroom for the first few weeks, then hopefully we can move baby to his crib. Then downstairs in our living room we'll have our pack n' play, swing and bouncer. I'm anticipating most naps taking place there, but we'll see.
  • We'll use a RnP in our bedroom for the first couple months since we have a small bedroom and not much room for a crib or PnP. Once Little Miss is big enough, we'll move her to the crib in her room. But like PP's have said, you do what's best for you and LO- every family/person/home is different, so whatever works best for you and baby is your best choice :)

  • We *hope* to have him in a bassinet for first couple months in our room than transition to his crib in the nursery. During the day for naps he'll have a swing and bouncer or I can pull his bassinet into the living room.
Once he's at daycare they have cribs and swings or an available lap whichever he sleeps more comfortably in.
  • Depends on where he falls asleep for naps. Downstairs, most likely he will nap in the swing. Upstairs probably in his crib in our room.

I bedshared with my other boys at night for the first 5/6months and plan to again this go around.

Every kid is different so we shall see how my plans actually turn out.

  • Downstairs we will have a swing and likely a PNP.  I'm planning on using the RNP in our room for the first few weeks just for ease of breastfeeding.  Baby will be moved to his crib during the night as soon as it makes sense to do so.  Naps will likely end up being where ever baby falls asleep.

**DISCLAIMER - as a FTM, I really have no idea what i'm doing and the above will all likely change when I actually have a real-live baby to deal with :)
  • I am planning on a pack and play in our garage(which is converted to a living room) for easy diaper changes, so I don't have to walk to the opposite end of the house.  But right now, my main goal is that this baby sleeps.  If it takes putting the baby on the dog's bed with him, I don't give a shit as long as there is sleep being done.

  • Last time our plan was PNP in our room for bedtime and crib for naps.  Everyone slept horribly so we moved her to her crib at 6 weeks.  She didn't nap longer than 45 min anywhere but the swing.

  • His crib, in his bedroom literally right next door to ours for bedtime. Pack and play or crib for naps.
  • He will sleep at night in a bassinet in our bedroom until he outgrows it. Then he will go into a crib sharing a room with his sister. We also have a swing that will go in the family room that he can nap in. We also have a bouncer, but I'm not sure how much we will use it. We didn't use it much with dd.

  • Baby will sleep next to me in the cosleeper and then move into our bed at some point later since we co sleep. Eventually into the girls' room... Although for some reason it is more like 3 boys and 1 girls room. :-/ They go to bed in separate rooms and all end up in one. *shrugs*

Naps.... Well, that is what my couch is for. Yes, I let my baby sleep on the couch next to me. Swing was almost useless the last 2 kids and I gave mine away. I have no intention of getting another one. The bouncy seats... Don't see a point in those. I do like the play mats, but well, unless baby falls asleep while she is playing, then it is not a sleeping pad.

  • Night sleep will be in the cosleeper until my mom leaves week 2 then she'll be in her crib. Naps are mostly the swing or crib depending what's going on.

  • In a bassinet in our bedroom for the first few months, then his crib in his nursery! That's the plan anyway, I am sure things change!
  • For the first few months, she will probably sleep in our room in a bassinet or whatever my procrastinating butt ends up buying.  For naps, either her crib or the bouncer.  That's what we did for DS and it worked out pretty well.

Of course, like @kdm06c says, we'll see how this plan works out since every baby is different!

  • Thanks for your responses, everyone!
  • For nighttime sleeping, baby will be in a PnP next to our bed.  During the day she will nap on me, in a RnP or on her montessori style floor bed.

  • I will have PAC n play set up in our family room so that the older siblings won't mess with the baby :) the rock n play will be in our bedroom and that's where baby will sleep for the first few weeks :)
  • He will likely sleep in the RnP in our room for the first 6ish months like DD2 did (she stayed in it for 8 months!). We are not buying another crib. DD2 will move out of the crib sometime next year in time for baby to move into it after he "graduates" from our room. But for now, DD2 is a terror without boundaries so I have no desire to put her in a big girl bed!! :-P She'll be 3 next June when this baby is about 6 months old, so that's probably when the two big transitions will take place...

Naps will be wherever...probably wearing him when he's tiny, then probably the RnP cause it's easy to pull from room to room depending on where I want him to nap. PnP will likely be in living room for diaper changes/nursing station. Worked well like that for DD2! :)

  • The plan is night sleep in crib in nursery. Rock n play in living room for day sleep. But we will just see what works when she gets here. We did this once with DD, but with a toddler around I don't know how well the baby will sleep around us during the day. And at night we will have to see if baby crying wakes toddler, if so, baby will likely be in our room in a pack n play.

I think it helps FTMs who have no basis of where to really start the process.  They're registering and looking for ideas/suggestions from those who have gone before.  I don't think anyone will say "well, Slaps from the interwebs is doing it so I MUST do it that way."  Just a jumping off point.

Yes to the bolded.  Right now my plan is to have a pack n play with bassinet in our living room and a rock n play in our bedroom.  We have a crib but I have no timeline on when to put the baby there.  I guess we'll see what the baby prefers!
+1 to all of this, even though I'm a STM. I will try what worked with DD  (PnP in our room at the beginning since we only have a two bedroom for now, RnP to the living room for naps) but who knows what this baby will prefer!

The same reason you're obsessed with posting the same reply in every single thread? Boredom at work? Curiosity? It's the internet so people can post what they want?

@vcl2008, this is the one I am planning to buy as well.  I personally don't want the baby to get used to sleeping at an incline, so I think this will work better for us.  But I've heard a lot of great things about the other one too, especially if your baby has reflux (which of course, you won't know until they arrive :)

  • Baby will be sleeping at night in the Crib but will have a pack in play set up in our bedroom for naps or just in case the crib doesn't work our right away.

  • My friend is letting us borrow a bassinet and we plan to keep her in our room until she outgrows it/reaches the weight limit. Eventually LO will transition to her crib, I'm a FTM so I really have no clue when that will be. If I feel like she isn't ready, I'll just use the pack and play that my mom has for the grand kids. For naps and to use downstairs we got a 2-in-1 swing/bouncer combo.
  • She'll sleep in the RnP right next to our bed for the first 3-4 months at night before moving her to her crib. As for daytime naps, it will vary. DD slept in her RnP, her swing, on our bed, etc. depending on the day. Honestly, wherever I get Emmy to sleep I'll gladly take.

  • With my son, he napped in his swing in the living room during the day. At night for the first 6 months, he slept in a co-sleeper (but not next to the bed) in our bedroom. At 6 months, he transitioned to his crib in his room.

The swing was very cozy and inclined, and the co-sleeper was flat and very firm. I wonder if that had anything to do with him having trouble settling at night?

So this time, I may use a PNP or just the floor for naps so this one is used to sleeping flat and firm the majority of the time.

The swing may be reserved for times she is having trouble settling or if I need her to be secure and soothed while I deal with her big brother.

Idk. Every baby is different, so I'll have to see what works best for this one, but the above is just one small tweak I am considering this time around.

  • FTM, so I'm not sure what will work.  My plan is for the baby to sleep in a bassinet next to our bed at night  (our friends are giving us one) for the first few weeks, then transition to her crib in the nursery. (Our whole apartment is 800 sq. ft, so I don't have to worry about her being far away).  I'd love her to sleep in her crib for naps, but naps will probably happen wherever we are.....stroller, carrier, couch etc.

  • Baby is going into the crib from day one for both nap time and nighttime! No sleep training issues with a transition to the crib later.
  • I will start with him in the bassinet in our room, after my mom leaves (after 2 weeks if I heal well from my C) then we will move him to his crib in his room down the hall. I will set up the PnP in the living room for day time naps. Is is what we did with DS and it worked. We will adjust as necessary with Ds#2 once we start to get to know him and his habits. Ideally I'd like him to nap in the family room because 1) I wouldn't need to climb up and down the stairs to his room and 2) I want him to be able to nap anywhere. But who knows, it's good to start with a plan but don't be too rigid about it, you will likely need to fly by the seat of your pants a bit!
