can your lipase issue change?

my milk used to be good for a couple of days in the fridge and also when frozen.... ive been pumping and freezing immediately, and i've also been rotating milk in the freezer to always have fresh frozen milk. well i've been defrosting every day a bottle since i try to give LO one bottle a day, and all of a sudden he wont take it, its smells like when LO spits up, and it tastes fine to me but im trying to figure out if now a have a lipase issue and im going to have to start scalding my milk

any help is appreciated

the milk ive been defrosting is from the middle of july, when my milk from jun was perfectly fine

im kinda of confused and dont know if it something im doing wrong or if its just normal

thank you in advance

Re: can your lipase issue change?

  • my milk changed when kiddo was somewhere around 5-6 months old.  it used to be perfectly lovely for days on end in the fridge.  he suddenly started REFUSING bottles at daycare he was 5-6 months old.  it was then i tried the milk (again... i had tasted it all along) and realized it tasted like vomit.  poor guy :(

  • I had a lipase problem with DD1. She still drank it but it stank. I continued to nurse through the pregnancy and no longer have the issue, it was noticeable by the end of my shift. That said since I have donated almost everything I've pumped I don't know about the milk I pumped in July. I should probably figure this out since I'll be going back to work soon and have to figure out daycare.
  • Lipase will make it taste soapy. If it tastes spoiled it mightbe something else. It can change. My sister had it and then realized the vitamin she was taking had lipase in it. She stopped the vitamin and it went away.

  • If it tastes fine it's probably not lipase. My milk tastes terrible- very soapy and metallic. Your LO may just be developing a preference for you and a bottle aversion.

  • if it was bad i could taste it right? when i taste it, it still tastes sweet not spoiled..... sometimes he will just drink an ounce or 2 then i wait until he is ready to take a nap and he will drink the rest another 2 or 3 ounces

it doesn't smell sour but is doesn't smell good like i said it smells like baby spit up
