What time do you have to wake up to get everyone out of the house for work/daycare/etc.?

Ok guys - headed back to work next week and feel like I'm going to have to wake up at the crack of dawn in order to get myself and LO ready and out the door for work/daycare. Curious what time everyone gets up and what your morning routine is.

Re: What time do you have to wake up to get everyone out of the house for work/daycare/etc.?

  • I try to get as much ready the night before as possible. In the morning, I usually wake up at 6 and either feed LO (if he is awake and ready to eat - sometimes he eats at 5 so I am up earlier and sometimes he sleeps until 7 so that all really depends) or pump. My schedule looks something like this, but changes depending on if my husband is already home to help with LO in the morning.

6am - get DS up, change him, feed him on one side

6:30am - pump the other side and freeze the milk from this pumping session. wash pump parts and bottles and leave them to dry. DS will usually hang out on his play mat while I do this.

7am - shower, get dressed, do hair and makeup for work. entertain DS at the same time - sing to him, make funny faces, etc to try to distract him for long enough so that I can get myself as presentable as possible

7:45am - pack everything I will need that day for pumping (I would do this the night before if I could but since I need to pump in the morning before I leave I usually can't) and my lunch which I make the night before. Let the dog out and feed him breakfast.

8am - hope my husband is already home from work so that I can hand off DS to him and leave for work.

Luckily I live less than a 10 minute drive from work right now so I do not have to leave too early. I am nervous for when we move further away in the spring how much earlier I am going to have to get up in orider to make it work on time!

  • I get up about 5:30, get myself mostly ready, nurse DD, finish getting ready and leave a few minutes after 7:00. DH takes DD to our sitter or I would be getting up earlier.

  • SS: Lately, this is what our morning looks like:

    600-6:15AM: Dream feed babe.
6:15-6:40AM: Walk dog, dress myself, make coffee.
6:40AM: Get in car for commute and pump in car (hands free)
    7:00AM: Get to work
    Back on the home front:
8:00AM: H gets up to shower
8:15AM: H wakes babe, changes diaper, gets her ready.
8:45-9:00AM: H drops babe off at DC.

Each night I get whatever clothes, lunches, milk, diapers ready. Pump gets cleaned at the end of each night and sits in fridge all day besides that. I also shower each night with babe to save time and for some bonding.

  • I don't work until 10, so I plan on getting up around 8... Leave for daycare by 9, be at work by 9:45-10. My DH doesn't work until the afternoon so I'm hoping he can just take them so I can get ready, then he can come home and go back to bed until he has to work.

Morning dream feed? Flipping genius. I never even thought to do that. Also with the pumping and driving- I have a one hour commute almost and would love to try this when I drop DS off at the half way point. How's it going?
  • @mrscbrad yes! I do the morning dream feed because when I was on ML, babe would wake up at about 7 or 6:30 for a feed and then sleep again until almost 10. I think I have inadvertently been encouraging an up late sleep late schedule since the very beginning, just because that's how H and I are. So, I don't want her waking up awkwardly between the time when I leave and H wakes her up, because then he wouldn't be able to get himself ready. So far the dreamfeed has been working for us, but it has only been 2.5 weeks! If she does wake up, he just pulls her into bed for some cosleeping and she settles back down. I am coming to realize though that I need to keep her dream feed at 6 and 8:15-8:30 wakeup time over the weekend as well. I was trying to have her fall back into the sleeping until 10 routine on weekends, but i think it's just confusing her, so we'll try getting up at 8:30 or 9 at the latest and then doing a long nap during the day. More info than you asked for!

Pumping and driving is highly recommended by me! I have a car adapter for my pump, and my supply is highest in the morning even with that dreamfeed so it's perfect timing. It's actually kinda relaxing- I blast the heat and listen to morning radio and drink my coffee. I still pump 3 times at work since I am fortunate to be able to, but have been able to start saving up a donation stash with the extra pump. GL girl!

  • Here's what my mornings have been like. While this is all going on my husband is sleeping, however, he gets up at 7:30 and takes care of the dog in the morning so I don't have to.

    • 6:00 - 6:35AM: wake up, get in shower, brush teeth, put contacts in, do my hair and make up
    • 6:35 - 6:50AM: wake up DD, change her diaper, dress her, then nurse her in my bed
    • 7:00AM: get myself dressed
    • 7:05AM: take bottles out of fridge, pack up food for work, get shoes on, put her in car seat
    • 7:15AM: leave house
    • 7:30AM: drop off DD at day care
    • 8:30AM: I'm at work
It's been working out pretty well, only been on average about 5 - 10 minutes late to work. I pick out outfits the night before and wash/sanitize all my pump parts the night before as well.
  • I make our breakfasts and lunches the night before so they are packed and all we have to do is grab them out of the fridge in the morning. I also feed and water our cats before I go to bed, and most nights DH does the litter box so he won't have to do that in the morning, either.

Our typical morning looks like this:

5am - DH gets up for work
5:15-5:30am - DD wakes up for her 2nd feed (she has one earlier in the night around 1 or 2am). I feed and change her and put her back to bed.
5:30am - DH leaves for work and I go downstairs to make coffee for my mom and I (DH doesn't drink his until he gets to work - weirdo), make bottles for the day, and pick up any odds and ends around the kitchen/house that didn't get caught the night before.
6am - Shower, get dressed and ready for work
6:30am - My mom arrives to watch DD. DD usually wakes up around this time, too.
    6:45am - I leave for work

I have been trying to get up at 4:30am every morning to work out or run before work, but it hasn't happened, yet. Lately DH has been whining about getting up for DD's first feeding, so I have been getting up for it and just can't get myself out of bed again at 4:30 after that. I need to get him back to waking up with her for that one so I can fit my workout in before the madness starts.

  • I have 2 schedules:
MF: up at 6, feed LO, DH up about 6:15, I make his coffee and get baby ready. They leave by 6:45, he drops her off at my aunts on his way to work.

TWR: up about 6:15, make coffee for DH and lunch if necessary(typically I do this at night.) LO up to nurse about 6:30. 7:00 I get ready while she sits in her RNP looking cute. I usually am out the door about 7:45, bring her to my moms, and get to work 8:05-8:10 depending on how hard it is to leave her that day. (I live and work in the same town as my mom.)
  • My alarm goes off at 5:30 and I usually roll out of bed before 5:45am.

    Schedule looks something like:

    5:45am - Pump
6:00am - clean pump parts, prepare daycare bag, prepare work pump bag, and make LOs first bottle to take to day care
6:05am - Shower, blow dry, makeup, dressed, etc
6:25am - wake up LO and get him dressed
6:30am - Good byes to DH, get LO in car seat
    6:35am - Leave for Daycare

Sometimes I'll switch up and shower before I pump, or shower the night before.  But oddly, those mornings that I'm not in the shower seem to be the ones I'm the most frazzled.

  • Ok. It's official. I really am the slowest person ever getting showered, dressed and putting on make up. DH will be so happy to know he's right. Lol.
  • I'm so jealous of those of you who have to wake up your LO's!

  • I need an hour and 15 minutes to get us both ready, but the order changes every day, depending on when DS wakes up.  Typically, I get up at 5:30am, go pee, put contacts in, brush hair, brush teeth, get dressed, make coffee.  If he isn't awake yet, I wake him up by 6:15am.  Usually he's screaming hungry at 6am.  He gets a bottle, then diaper and clothes changed.  Pack him into car seat, hope he doesn't poop again.  We leave at 6:45am to drop off at daycare, then I commute to work and am there by 8am.  I shower and pack his bag every night before bed.

  • I get up at 5:30. I feed J at 5:45 and then put him back down to sleep until 6:45. Around 6 when I put J back down, I eat, get dressed, and brush teeth. At 6:25, I get T up. He eats, gets dressed, and brushes teeth. At 6:50, we get his snack and lunch (if he wants it) packed. At 7:05 we get shoes on and head out the door. Once I start my job, I'll get up probably closer to 5 so that I can pack my lunch and J's daycare bag. I'm not a fan of packing lunches the night before... I have a huge problem with soggy food or any food that is even slightly off of the normal. I'm weird. Lol.
  • I do a lot at night but it still takes me at least 2 hours to get ready in the morning!
