gd can numbers be too low?

This is my second pregnancy and second time with gd. I know how bad it.is if numbers are too.high, but what about too low? I was told fasting should be between 70-100 which tbey always are. And after a meal should be between 100-120. but more times then not after breakfast and lunch my numbers tend to be on the low side 85-95. I thought I was being over cautious on the carbs but today I had cereal with milk (easily calculated) and after breakfast was only at 82.
I have call into my doctor but was wondering if anyone.had experience with this.
Thanks!

  • I had GD with my last pregnancy and your numbers sound good for fasting. I was told 91+ for fasting was high. There was days I would wake up with a 69 fasting and after they put me on metformin, I was getting low 50's and waking up shivering!
  • Are those 1or 2 hour numbers? They seem reasonable for 2 hour numbers.

Here's the link to the GD thread:

My MFM wants numbers between 60-95 for fasting, 60-120 for two hours after meals. I know myself I start getting hypoglycemia symptoms if I drop much past 70, so that's kinda what my personal threshold is. My doctor doesn't get concerned unless it's below 60, though.

Your numbers sound good, right on track, honestly.

when I was pregnant with my son, after eating mine was dropping to the forties. It's still happens quite a bit even 9 years later, so I have to be really careful. I can not have any carbs or sugar before lunch, or it messes me up all day.
I could not take the test at my last appointment, because I vomited the glucose drink so they did my glucose and a1C. My a1c was like 4.2, and my glucose was 71 and I had just eaten.
They were not concerned this time.
  • My numbers have been very low but as long as I don't feel dizzy or flushed, I was told I'm okay. I'm on a high protein diet that keeps the levels steadier but I always carry some sugary carb around in case I feel faint. Overall it seems much easier to "fix" low levels than high ones. I'm glad you're talking to your doctor for better info.
