I just talked to my OB office and I massively failed my 1 hour glucose test with a 181. I limited carbs and sugar 12 hours before. Has anyone else failed their 1 hour that bad and passed the 3 hour?
I found this
chart and thought it was interesting....it's from 96, so not sure how accurate it still is:

The lab tech told me to fast for 12 hours before. I've read that you should carb load 3 days prior to testing (I am going in Friday or Monday for the test).
Any words of wisdom ladies? Feeling like a sucky mom already today! I just want to cry and MH doesn't understand at all.
(I am sure this has been on the board before, but I searched and I think it came up with a post from every month but D14).

Oh I definitely don't want to cheat the test! If I have it, I want to know asap so that I can start monitoring for LO's safety. It is so out of our control which is the hard part. I eat well 80% of the time and work out regularly. It was a shock to see I failed it so bad, but I guess my body is doing its pregnancy-hormonal thing!

Since this is my third round of GD/type II, there's not much I haven't tried in terms of tests, diets, etc. I've been lucky that I haven't had to do insulin, but I was on glyburide for both girls and will most likely start it tomorrow.
Information is the key, and figuring out how you can still enjoy some treats without elevating your sugars.
Pregnancy GTT uses a 1-hour and 3-hour. I have never heard of a 2 hour for pregnancy. I have had the 2 hour many times in my life, due to hypoglycemia.

Exactly what Shell said - Gestational diabetes is NOT the same as Type II Diabetes. Type II Diabetes is related to diet, exercise, and weight (in general). Gestational diabetes has to do with your placenta blocking the production of insulin. So don't take it on yourself or feel like a bad mom, because it isn't that at all!
-----QUOTE BOX FAIL-----
Yes, but...
As you get to the 40-week mark, the placenta can start breaking down, flooding your system with the hormones that cause the insulin resistance. If you get enough of them, then it can cause you to become type II. This is why you don't get to go past your due date with GD. And yes, once you deliver the placenta, the hormones are gone and you are no longer GD, as long as your body hasn't already been compromised beyond repair.
Also, 60% of women who have GD develop type II within five years of the pregnancy. I don't know if it's a direct result of the GD or the fact that other lifestyle factors may come into play (or moms with GD already have an underlying insulin issue and the GD just exacerbates it). Regardless, that's what happened to me, developing type II 18 months after having DD2, and I have an underlying insulin issue to boot (PCOS).
So yes, GD is not the same as type II. And most of the time the placenta is the evil part of the equation. But just make sure you and your doctor keep on top of monitoring you even a couple of years after delivery.
