Ugh...migraines...

I had one yesterday and had a diet coke with dinner in hopes that the caffeine would help.  It at least lessened it into a tolerable headache.  I thought then I could at least sleep it off.   Alas... I woke up with my migraine back.  :(  I really hope my Tylenol and lots of water help kick this thing or it is going to be a very long day with 8 rambunctious 3 yr olds...  Anyone have any other migraine remedies??  I'd call off if I could but there is no one available to cover my class today.

I guess on the plus side... I am 18 weeks today!  I hope I feel our little doodlebug moving around soon!

Re: Ugh...migraines...

  • Tylenol, ice, and caffeine usually does the trick for me. Sometimes if I am nauseous with it, it helps to just throw up. Migraines are the worst. Hope you feel better soon!

  • My doctor prescribed me tylenol 3 for migraines which is safe during pregnancy. I have yet to take it, but if I really needed to, I would be glad that I had it. Feel better!

  • Sorry, I don't have any remedy suggestions. Just wanted to say that I sympathize and hope you feel better soon!
  • I had to actually go to my doctor for my headaches. They were soooo bad and no amount of water I drank or how many ice packs I used seemed to work. He prescribed me something for them but didn't suggest I take it every day but I am continuing to get them so I may wind up having to bring this up again my next prenatal visit.

  • I had a migraine this morning too! It was awful! I hate taking meds during pregnancy, but I ended up taking a Tylenol, drank a coke, and a lot of water and it went away. Hope you found relief too!
  • I put on earphones, an ice pack and close my eyes, when I can that is. Those things have helped the most. Typenol usually does nothing but if I'm desperate i take it anyway, can't hurt. Caffeine usually helps but sometimes it doesn't. GL I'm dealing with them too.
  • Ohhh thank goodness other people are getting these crappy migraines! I thought there might be something wrong with me lol. I drink heaps of water, have a super hot shower, drink a coffee and go for a walk. If that doesn't work I try and sleep through it because paracetamol does not help at all. Caffeine usually does the trick to numb it to a bearable headache so I can function though.. I hope you feel better soon
  • My OB said that Excedrine migraine was ok to take occasionally. I would check with your dr before taking it though. It has helped me when nothing else works. I also do pressure points on my hands, at the base of skull, and center of forehead between my eyes. Hope you feel better soon.
  • Ughh I feel your paint,  I've had a horrible migraine since yesterday. I think I'd rather be sick..I thought I was dehydrated so drank a ton of h20. I also took a Claritin thinking it might be sinuses from allergies but that didn't help. I didn't have coffee yesterday, so I just finished a cup and feeling a lot better.

  • Pre-pregnancy I would take Excedrine migraine to try to avoid my Immitrex because that stuff is expensive.  BUT, my doctor said to watch that because Exedrine has a good bit of caffeine in it and can cause rebound migraines.  So I agree with @witnerbabe2015, definitely talk to your doctor first.

I had daily HORRIBLE migraines through the entire first trimester and the beginning of the second, so my doctor prescribed me something that is safe during pregnancy.  He said not to be afraid to take it, but that if I HAD to take it everyday, it was perfectly safe.  Unfortunately, I did have to take it almost every day and sometimes more than once (I never took more than what the bottle said I could in a day).  I was literally in tears from the pain quite often and my migraines laughed at Tylenol.

Some things to try if you're not a chronic migraine sufferer are lavender scented candles or oil on your temples if you can stand the smell.  A dark, quiet room which unfortunately doesn't seem possible for you right now.  Rubbing the temples and right between the eyes does help to at least make it bearable.  If you can get in somewhere after work, a massage may help.  Caffeine can definitely help sometimes.  GL, I hope you feel better.  Migraines are the pits!

  • See if your doctor will give you a prescription for fioricet. It contains Tylenol, caffeine, and butalbital, which seems to be the magical ingredient. I've gotten severe migraines since childhood, and I am surprised at how well this pg-safe medicine works. Tylenol and caffeine just weren't cutting it for me.
  • A fantastic little pill that my OB prescribed to me was a low dose muscle relaxer. Who knew? It is called: Cyclobenzaprine 10mg that paired with Tylenol works wonders for my tension headaches and migraines. Perfectly safe for pregnancy and it is a class A drug, which means it has been tested on both humans and animals. Don't touch anything that is considered class C during any pregnancy doctors are allowed to prescribe up to class C but that category hasn't been tested oh humans.
  • I feel your pain. It's terrible! Hopefully it subsides soon.
  • I suffer from migraines also. It's horrible so debilitating!! Third pregnancy and also 18 weeks, and the migraines came in full force - however - I started taking a iron supplement every other day and IT WORKS seriously you should try it , very worth it, won't do any harm and might help you!!!
