questioning whether to take her to the doctor

My little one is running a 101.2 fever at the moment, its because she's cutting 3 or 4 molars at the moment. Last time she was cutting teeth she did not run such a high fever, Tylenol is not helping much. So I'm questioning whether to take her in or wait it out since she is not actually "sick"? =(

My doc has always told us that a fever is not, in and of itself, a problem. He only wants us to come in when there js more going on that isn't getting better at home. Now, if my kid was running 105, I'd probably freak out and take him in, but not for 101.

DD had a fever for almost two weeks with teething. We were told teething fevers do not typically run over 100.4, so if she was 101 for a couple of days in a row (or it wouldn't come down with meds) to bring her in just to make sure there was no underlying illness or infection.

This is exactly right. We to ds to the ER because of a fever (not related to teething) and the doctor was very informative. He told us that a fever is not in itself a bad thing but if a high fever lasts too long there's a possibility of long term affects. He said we could rotate ibueprofen and Tylenol every 4 hours. Try cool washcloths to help cool LO. If the fever gets to 105 and doesn't come down any with medication see a doctor. I have never noticed bleeding but I think it's possible. Maybe just call your ped to make sure. Good luck to you and LO

DD has gotten a fever a few times when teething and it's usually the low kind (101-102). She has had some bleeding with this last round of teeth coming in - I noticed blood on her toothbrush, just a little so I wasn't too worried.

When DD has a low fever (101-102) I always judge her by temperament and energy level. If she's happy and running around like a crazy person (ie normal) then I just let her be. If she doesn't want to eat, is generally fussy, and wants to cuddle instead of play then I know something's really wrong.

I used to be paranoid about calling the nurse line at our pedi's office because I didn't want them to think I was a hypochondriac or something but now I call whenever I'm unsure of a symptom. Sometimes they tell me to let it run it's course and what I should be on the lookout for and sometimes they say bring her in. If you're able to call the pedi or a nurse before taking LO in I recommend it.

A small amount of blood is not uncommon when teething if the teeth are actually cutting through, you have to remember they are breaking a hole through the gum in order to erupt. My pediatrician has told me a low grade fever is not uncommon when teething. Good luck

Thank you everyone, you have eased my mind tremendously. It breaks my heart to brush her teeth, she is so in so much pain, but has to be done.
