I need ideas of how to drink water with aversion

I have a VERY bad aversion to water right now, and today, it's gotten worse. It tastes very metallic, and makes my stomach hurt.
What lightly flavored options/ideas should I try to get myself to drink more?
Let me tell ya-- this is very odd for me since I used to consume 10 glasses a day.

Thanks!

Re: I need ideas of how to drink water with aversion

  • Can you stomach mineral/seltzer water?  There are a bunch of brands out there and a lot of different flavor options.  Otherwise, maybe drinking something like coconut water or watered down juice would be a better beverage option until your aversion subsides.

  • @MsMacual- I have never tried seltzer/mineral water. I am willing to give anything a shot, at this point! Watered down juice may be an option, too. Thank you!

  • NP- some brands to look for....Polar Seltzer is a good bet (they should be easy to find on the east coast and some parts of the midwest).  Trader Joes has 3 flavors and they have coconut water at a great price compared to Target.  LaCroix is another brand of mineral water that should be available in most areas (Target carries 8 packs).

  • My husband has been wanting to go to Trader Joe's. I will go there and see what they carry. Your info is highly appreciated!
  • Have you tried sliced cucumbers or infusion with raspberry or other fruits? Some spas do that and it tastes really good. I also second a mineral or sparkling water. I even make juice "spritzers" for my girls with lots of crushed ice, a little bit of juice and sparkling water. GL to you.

  • @JilliansMoma - Ooooo....those sound good! I do love cucumber, and love citrus fruits too. I may try something like that, as well. Thanks for the suggestion!

I love going to sonic and getting a large strawberry water. I have never been a fan of water to begin with and usually have to have a large amount of lemons to stomach it. But the strawberry water at sonic has been a godsend for me.

  • @mandyreads- My DH was just talking about us heading to Sonic this weekend maybe, so I will try to make a trip out there...thanks!
  • I also recommend adding fruits to your water - maybe fill up water in a jug and add fruits so they have time to infuse and then add to that?

If you do decide you like seltzer/sparkling water, I would look into getting a soda stream - they start around $80 but are well worth it.  DH and I really enjoy sparkling water and it is so much easier and economical to use the soda stream to make it vs buying bottles of sparkling water.  We have had ours for 3 or so years and no issues with it.  Only ongoing expense is a CO2 cartridges (which last for 3 - 6 or so mos depending on usage - and then you can return the empty and buy a new one at various stores - Bed, Bath Beyond, etc for $15ish - just double check which ones you can return the empty to - they take care of the disposal)

Regardless, hope you can find a way to stay hydrated and that you start to enjoy water again.  Hope this is just a phase!

  • @Lady2010- All great ideas. We drink filtered water at home, but I think I will add fruit to it and see what happens. Thanks!
  • I usually hate water. Sometimes I will use the Skinny Girl Water Enhancers (flavor squirts) to get more down. The Skinny Girl ones don't use artificial sweeteners like other brands do. They use Stevia instead. You can get a 4 pack of different flavors at Costco pretty affordably.

  • Thanks, all! Very informative :)

Today I am trying the infused fruit. This weekend, I'm buying mineral water and will also do the half juice trick.
  • Also you might trying grating some fresh ginger and steeping it in the water for about 20 mins,  Add some lemon and you've got a very healthy yummy refreshing drink.  You can also add some honey if you want it sweet.  Fresh ginger has a lot of medicinal applications, including soothing upset stomachs.  Good luck! :-)

  • I add about 1/4 (or even less) apple juice and can guzzle the water back no problem, but same thing for me, plain water just doesn't appeal right now.

  • Flavoring... I dont like my well water at home, but that helps. Otherwise I do LaCroix and bottled. I can drink it straight at work ;-)
