Bumbo vs Megaseat vs high chair

Hi, I'm new to this board and looking for some advice. My daughter is 3 1/2 months (first baby). She, of course, can't sit up in her own but enjoys being propped up w boppy pillow or on the couch. She also insists on sitting at the dinner table with us (usually on my lap) although she is still bf. she just likes to be in the thick of things.

Any one have a recommendation on the bumbo floor seat vs the Megaseat? At what age did you start using? Also, we don't have a high chair yet, but in thinking that might be a good item to buy now so that I can have two hands at mealtimes and while cooking. Would you buy both a high chair and a floor seat? Thanks!

Re: Bumbo vs Megaseat vs high chair

  • We have a Bumbo and a high chair. My DS2 is similar to your lo in wanting to sit at the table with us. He can't quite sit in his high chair yet. I have put him in the Bumbo at dinner but he is only happy if we put it on thetable, which I'm not comcomfortable with. I have found he does best in his exersauser because it distracts him.

I definitely would buy a high chair soon. To me, the Bumbo isn't really worth the price. We don't use it often.

  • We have a bumbo and a high chair. DD started sitting in the bumbo at 3.5-4 months. She had very good head control at that point though and was trying to sit up on her own.

She still can sit in the bumbo and loves it for snack time. But she is a tiny baby and I know people who have larger babies have issues with the bumbo and the baby's legs.

We have a space saver high chair and I like it because we can just take it apart and take it when we travel and it just straps to a chair. It also converts to a booster seat for when she is bigger.

I've never heard of your 3rd item so I have nothing to add about that.

  • Never got much use out of a bumbo.

We had a big high chair w my oldest, but didn't really want to take up the space w twins. We have two FP boosters and they are awesome. Can be completely wiped down, so no food gets mushed into fabric, and can be easily unstrapped for travel.

We didn't start using them until they could essentially sit unsupported.

  • We have this high chair

It reclines, so it's easy to use before they can sit up on their own, but then you can still use it for years. DS still uses it daily and he's almost 2.5.

  • We have a Graco DuoDiner highchair (the space saver type don't fit on our kitchen chairs). DD has been using it since 4mo. It reclines pretty far back, so she didn't need to be able to sit unassisted to sit at the table with us. She'll be 3 in January and we still use it for all meals (she's tiny and too small to sit at the table without it). I would definitely get a highchair and if you want one of the other things look for one second hand just incase your LO hates it.

  • Thanks for all the advice! Very informative!
  • High chair.

The bumbo was mostly useless for us. His thighs were too fat, for one thing, and by the time he'd lengthened out a bit and was less of a chub, he no longer needed assistance.

  • We got a Bumbo before DS was born. He's 5 months now and at around 4 months, we wanted him to sit in it to be able to play in this cool car toy that you sit inside to play in it... And his legs don't fit! He's a big baby, but I'm frustrated by that. I don't know what a Megaseat is, but just something to think about with the Bumbo. On the other hand, I've heard of people using Bumbos for years. Maybe my son just has unusually giant legs haha.
