Eye Twitch

I haven't been on here much, for some reason my personal life decided to cut into my Bump time. I did develop an eye twitch and I can't seem to get rid of it. I actually saw a doctor for it a few years ago and after numerous blood tests I was told to cut out caffiene and get more potassium. It worked until the last few days. Anyone have a secret they use to get rid of these things? (I have a doctors appointment tomorrow where I also intend to bring this up)

Re: Eye Twitch

  • Unfortunately, higher progesterone levels can contribute as well. Aka-another preggo side effect.

You're still sleeping through the night?! Curse you! Just kidding, but I'm mad crazy jealous. Hope your eye stops twitching soon! :)

  • I had this first tri. Mine was from MSG in the Chinese food I craved. Once I stopped eating it and then ordering it without MSG, I haven't had the problem since.

I would say to try tonic water as that's what the eye docs I work for recommend. But upon further research I guess you're not supposed to have it while pregnant. :(

    Try tonic water. :)

Tonic isn't necessarily safe during pregnancy. There's controversy over the quinine.
Yeah, I caught that and edited after I posted. Had no idea!

  • My mum used to say that your eye twitches because you are guilty or need to confess something.
I usually take a nap and get a few good nights of sleep and it goes away.
  • This sounds crazy but I think there is a pressure point in your mouth (either roof of mouth or inside cheek.. I forget) that you can try. Google it. My crazy Dad told me about it once.
As I was typing this in Google recommended "Pressure Point in Mouth to Induce Labor".  I can't wait for someone to post this thread.

  • Hi, I'm an optometrist. Twitching eyes are typically due to lack of sleep and/or stress. It has been suggested that it can be from a lack of potassium (hence the eating of bananas) but there isn't exactly scientific proof of that. It is possible it could be from a change in prescription but is usually associated more with stress. Fortunately, although really annoying, it's typically nothing to be overly concerned about. Hope it goes away soon!
