Trouble TTC

New here - intro!

Hi ladies!  So I read the newbie board a while ago, but I momentarily lost my mind and posted in the IUI check-in first without actually properly introducing myself, so I apologize for that!

My name is Elisabeth, and my husband and I have been TTC for 11 months now.  I came off of birth control last October, and hoped my period would soon return back to its normal self.  However, after 6 months of no AF, I started to get nervous.  I had had regular periods before birth control, then when I went on BC it all but disappeared.  My OB gave me Provera, and it worked like a charm.  AF was regular again for a cycle or two, but then slowly disappeared. It was so frustrating to not know what was going on with my body when my DH and I were ttc.

In August, I went back to the OB, and she said let's try the Provera again, wait a month, then begin a cycle of Clomid.  I was to start the Provera the following day, but lo and behold, when I woke up - AF was staring back at me, I couldn't believe it!  It sounds cheesy, but I took it as a sign.  So here we are now, and I am on my first cycle of treatment.  I was on Clomid for CD 3-7, and am going in for my ultrasound/trigger shot today, CD13.  I'm so nervous...will this work?  Will it not?  Not to mention I had a baby shower this weekend, and it just seems like everywhere I go there is a pregnant woman or a cute little baby.  But I know you can all relate to that, which is why I'm here!  There aren't many people I know who are going through this or have gone through it, so I hope to not only get support here, but to give all the support I can!

I look forward to getting to know everyone and each of your journey's.  Nice to meet you! :)

Re: New here - intro!

  • Hi!  I am new too - and basically in the same stage as you.  We've been trying for about a year, and this is my second cycle under the care of an RE.

  • Welcome! No need to apologize. Glad to know you. :)

Yay for AF coming on her own! Now get thyself to an RE. There is a whole lot of testing you need to make sure you're not using up your lifetime recommended Clomid doses or in general wasting time, money and stress. It sucks to take a month off treatment but an HSG for you and SA for him are in order!

  • Thank you all for the advice!  I completely agree with you all to get to an RE, and that is certainly my next step.  The only reason why I gave my OB a shot for the first cycle was because she just knows me so well, I've been going to her for years, and she knows my lifestyle and all the events leading up to my infertility that I felt "safe" sticking with her at first.

That being said, I am making an appointment with an RE as we speak!  It's just tough to get to one because I live 1.5 hrs away from the nearest "city".  But - no excuses, whatever it takes! :)

I also should have mentioned that my husband has been tested and all is good, and I have also had a lot more testing than I originally posted. I've had a sonohistogram, blood tests to check hormone levels, checking for and ruling out any and all other possible reasons why I wasn't ovulating, and went a year trying to avoid skipping straight to Clomid.  So, if nothing else, my OB thankfully didn't just hand it to me right away. I'm all very new to this whole process, so I'm trying to take it one slow step at a time to make sure it's the right thing for me, my husband, and my body.

Thank you all for the advice - and will keep you all updated!! I'm so glad to be here!

Tons of good luck to you! Welcome in

Thank you!  And that's my next step.  The only problem is that the closest RE that's reputable is an hour and a half away, and while I know I have to do what has to be done, it's really difficult to have to drive 1.5 hours for every appointment.  So I'm trying to figure out what is best for my situation.  I think right now I'm going to go through this cycle, see what happens, then take the next step towards an RE referral.
