Bigger bottles for pumping

I use the medela bottles to pump into and they hold around 5 oz. I'm currently just pumping one side first thing in the morning while DS nurses on the other (he's sleeping through the night right now). I was wondering if there are bottles that hold more than 5 oz for pumping. I feel like I always have to stop the pump because my bottle is full and I feel like I'm missing out on some milk!

Re: Bigger bottles for pumping

  • On the medela website you can order 5 and 8oz bottles. Not sure if any other places carry the 8oz bottles.

  • You can get adapters for many types of bottles. And some screw on to the medela set up - my Dr browns do.
  • I saw the 8 oz ones at my target today check them out of they are close before ordering them online!

  • My Target sells the 8 oz medela bottles. I was looking for the 5 oz and could only find 8 when I went. I just realized my Dr Browns bottles fit, which is going to be a big lifesaver for me!

  • Gerber first essential also fit the medela and I think they hold 9. That's what I used for storage with the medela lids
  • I bought some 8oz medela bottles on ebay

  • Walmart has 9 oz Parents Choice bottles that supposedly fit ... I haven't picked any up yet, but plan to.

Every bottle I've purchased except for my Tommee Tippee bottles which have much wider tops have fit on my Medela pump, including the cheap Gerber ones.

There is a Tommee Tippee adaptor. I have it, but LO won't do TT.
  • Has anyone found that "medela oz" are less than other bottles? I'm usually off by a half oz for every 4oz bottle. Ex. For 16oz in her bottles I have to pump 18 medela oz
  • You're getting 8 oz out of one boob every morning @-) ?! How long do you have to pump? Sorry no answers just curious. No pumping here but LO is 12.5 lb at two months and starting to eat from both sides as he gets cranky when he finishes on one side.

That's so weird - my medela oz are larger than my Dr Browns oz. For a while, I thought I was having "Jesus feeds the masses with a few fish" moments, because I was pumping 21ish medela oz, but feeding my baby 24-26 Dr Browns oz a day, yet not running out.

Mine are pretty much exactly on with all of my plastic bottles. I've tried about 5 brands. I have some glass bottles that are a little off, but I think the bottoms are just a tad uneven so that's why.

This happened to me today with my milk. I used the medela bottles to pump into. I wrote 4 oz when I froze it a month ago. Went to pour and use it today in the lansinoh momma bottle and it was 3.5 oz? I thought I must've done something wrong when I wrote it. Now I'm thinking maybe it isn't just me? Hmm

  • Yeah I've noticed it with multiple bottles. I just round down by a half oz in every bag. It usually gives me a tad more milk after I make bottles
  • My drop in liners never measure the same as the medela bottles. I usually just go by the medela amounts and remember what I poured into the drop ins. The ventaires measure the same as medela.

Sorry to just jump in here, but I pump a full eleven ounces on each side every morning. It takes 1/2 an hour. I could easily supply twins on only pumping three times a day. Yay for oversupply, I guess
