question re thrush and washing

For those who had thrush, how did you wash your bras, breast pad, towels, etc? Did you keep them separate from your other clothes? TiA

Re: question re thrush and washing

  • I kept bras, breast pads, towels, burp cloths (if I used them to dab dry) and nursing tank tops separate from other clothes.  Washed in hot water and added 10-20 drops (I think) of grapefruit seed extract after I added the clothes to the machine, and a cup of vinegar to the final rinse.
  • Loading the player...
  • I did separate all of it and washed hot with oxygen bleach everyday. Also boiled all pump/bottle parts and pacifiers for 20 minutes every day. We did stop using cloth diapers until we were both clear.
  • I just put GFSE and TTO in all my laundry the whole time we were being treated (4 months!!!) and for 2 washes after.

He has no yeast rash so I didn't stop with cloth diapers...anyone think this is necessary?  I don't want to overburden myself with stuff that's unnecessary.  Boiling parts and pacis...well the LC told me to boil the pacis once and then put them in Nystatin once a day.

We didn't worry about the diapers initially, but she ended up with a yeast rash later on and we just used liners while we did lotrimin (after everything was bleached, of course).

We also did the boiling for 20 minutes every day (bottle nipples, pacifiers, teethers if they were boil-safe, pump parts, etc).  It was a PITA, but we never had a recurrence - I know a lot of people have a hard time getting rid of it because yeast likes to linger.

I thought oxygen bleach was just for stains, not for sanitizing like regular chlorine bleach. ?

I'd have to look it up again, but I do remember reading that chlorine bleach is not the only way to sanitize cloth.
