Late intro and a question

Hi Ladies,

I have been doing a little bit of lurking and figure it is time to introduce myself since the board has been very helpful. I am 35 weeks 1day and we are team green again. I had my son at 35weeks 6 years ago due to pPROM and I've been nervous about actually making it to October (part of why my intro is so late...). I had a pelvic exam today found out that baby is not engaged yet, but my cervix is anterior and 50% effaced, I am at 1cm. We are hopeful that baby will stay put for few more weeks... although I understand labor can happen before that too...

I tried to search the board to get a sense of how likely the baby will stay put once distillation start but I wasn't able to find out much, just curious to know long the partial effacement/dilation phase lasted for those of you who found out before labor?  - Thanks

I had an appointment on my EDD with my DD and was 0 cm, no effacement, nothing.  I went into labor the next day and had her 24 hours later.  Everyone is different and every pregnancy is different.

  • Thanks everyone. I should clarify that I am not looking for an answer on whether I will make it for a specific amount of time. I am simply curious to see the spread from people who found out about their progress before labor and care to share. Perhaps it is more of a poll than a question. Sorry about being not totally clear in the original post.
  • My personal experience isn't helpful here, but from what I've heard from other moms, it seems to be pretty common for STM+ to dilate sooner, but still hold out until term before labor.  I guess we'll see soon enough for me since I don't think my OB would do a cervical check until next week.

  • Welcome! I have a friend who walked for 3 weeks at 3 cm dilated before she had her baby... and she was a STM.

  • Hey! I'm glad you posted this as I was thinking of posting something similar to see if there were any other STM that were as dilated as I am but not in active labor. With my first I walked about at 4cm for a couple of weeks and by the time I went to the hospital I was at a 5.5-6. With this one I was 2 cm and 75% effaced at 35 weeks, at 37 weeks I was a 'stretchy 5-almost 6 and 80%, and now at 38 weeks I'm the same dilation and 90% effaced'. I guess one of the perks to dilating early is by the time you're in labor your body has already done a lot of the work!
  • With my daughter I was 4cm from 34 weeks until I gave birth. This time I went into labour on saturday (I was 36 and 5), went from 3 to almost 6 and labour stopped completely on its own. So I'm currently somewhere between 5 and 6, with no more signs of labour.

  • My best friend was 4 cm for 3 weeks and her baby came 6 days past her EDD!

I was checked on my due date had not dilated at all. And my DD came 6 days late as well.
