Is this similar to Waxelene? It's un-petroleum multi-purpose jelly.  I was looking for Waxelene @ Whole Foods.  They had this.  Is it similar?

Can I use Grandma Els on her face?

  • Is it still a good alternative to Vaseline though?

  • Depends what you want it for? It has castor oil in it, which I can't seem to find solid info as to whether it is CD safe or not. Our pedi recommended it when DS had wetness sensitivity rashes. I wasn't sure about this product so I used liners and sposies with it. It does feel very similar to petroleum jelly, only slightly softer. And it doesn't have that petroleum jelly smell, so it has that going for it.
  • My Whole Foods carries Waxelene, so maybe they could order it in for you?
  • I found tiny, tiny tubes of Waxelene last week at an independent natural supplements and foods store last week. Maybe you have a place like that near you?

DD#2 has rash on her lip, cheek, and chin b/c she sucks her thumb and that's where her hand rests on her face.  Esp. at night if she gets a little sweaty and her hand is on her face all night.  Our pedi told us to use Vaseline.
  • It's probably fine for that. But I would imagine you could also use your favorite rash cream, as long as you haven't been double-dipping.
  • It's a good product. Lots of cd safe creams have castor oil.

  • Can I use Grandma Els on her face?  I just got some.
  • I don't see why not. I'm pretty sure I've done that to protect from teething drool.
