stomach pain

Hi
I'm 37 weeks 3 days and have had constant stomach pain for three days. Went to dr she checked and I'm thinning out but not dialated. She told me to take pepcid. My stomach is hurting again. Had a ultrasound earlier in pregnancy and had gas built up wonder if that's going on again. Anyone else have this?

Re: stomach pain

  • Call your doctor if the pain is severe and/or persistent.

Is it timeable pain? Crampy, low pain or pain higher in your stomach? I'm supposed to call if I experience upper-right quadrant pain, as that could be a sign of pre-e.

I must say, my tummy hurts pretty much all the time now. Lol But not severe pain. Hope you feel better soon!

  • The pain is consistent. I don't know anything I can take for it and I don't think going in to labor and delivery will do anything. I'm really at a loss. I've taken tums and pepcid this morning
  • Low stomach no really time able because it's constantly

If you think it's gas pain, have you asked your OB about taking gas-x?

ETA: I ask because I always think of tums and Pepcid as more upper-stomach issue meds (like heartburn or nausea...)

  • I had this just last week! Started with heartburn in the early morning (I had avocado on toast for breakfast... same breakfast as several days before!) and gradually turned into debilitating stomach cramps. Felt like digestive cramps but the pain was all throughout my belly. It was also constant just like you're saying. I went to L&D and they monitored me for 4 hours... I had sporadic contractions but the pain never rose or fell with the contractions, and the baby's heartrate was fine. They check and I was only 1 cm dilated. They gave me maalox and another heartburn med they said they use prior to c-sections to prevent acid reflux. That helped a little with the heartburn, but the constant tummy ache was still there. I went home and eventually the pain went away on it's own... My doctor told me at my appointment yesterday that she has no idea what it was but "pregnancy is a b*tch" ...

I know you don't want to go to L&D but maybe it would be good to monitor the baby for a bit and see if you have contractions consistent with the pain? Sometimes it feels constant until you lay down and focus, and then you can feel increasing or decreasing pain better...

Hope it subsides soon! It sucks, I know!!

OP, please consult your ob prior to going to L&D for stomach pain.  If you aren't taking any medication now, perhaps consult your ob for something that may help alleviate the pain.  Sometimes stomach pain (unfortunately) is idiopathic, but if you discuss with your ob they can talk through galbladder symptoms, etc., in an attempt to better find a reason for the pain.

  • I was having terrible stomach pains during 1st/2nd trimester. Like PPs have suggested, my dr recommended taking gas-x as an option to help alleviate the pain. Tums never really helped me but the gas-x did! GL!
