From Bottle to Sippy

how did you transition MILK from the bottle to the sippy???

DD is 15months old and has a bottle in the morning and a bottle at night before bed. She has water in her sippy 3x a day with her meals + snacks. We've tried everything to get DD to drink milk from her sippy but she refuses.

We've even tried several different types of sippy cups, she won't do it.

Her dentist and pedi insist that we make the transition off the bottle, but I just can't get her to budge. And I'd rather her have the milk than not. Longest we've lasted trying to switch is about a week, with a ton of different sippys.

How did you make the switch ?!?!?

Re: From Bottle to Sippy

  • Cold turkey. Just stop giving her a bottle and only give her a sippy. It may take a few days but when she realizes she has no other choice, she will drink it. If she goes a few days without milk, that is okay.

I felt like it took awhile for us as well. I use a straw sippy, like her sippy for water is what we ended up using.  No bottles in sight and no mentioning of bottles.  She knows, and will not drink from the sippy.  Also I noticed at first she drank it a little better if it wasn't straight from the fridge, closer to room temperature. Maybe try offering it in a sippy during meal time, and then she will take it in the evening or morning a little better.

  • Cold turkey. Took maybe 2 days and he caved.

  • Have you tried straw cups?  Just the difference in how to take the milk might help.  I finally got E to drink milk by putting it in a "special" straw cup.  He gets excited every time he sees it because he loves it so much.

Maybe bring LO to the store to pick one out?  Worth a shot.

We used the straw cup first. Then switched to the sippy after a month or so. Now we use both.
  • We dropped one bottle at a time - first the morning one, then the afternoon.  However, if I was going to do it again, I would just do both at once.

We also went to a straw cup.
