3rd Trimester

third trimester and feel like a whale

I am someone who has always been self conscious about my weight and an avid dieter/exerciser.  I am 29 weeks and feel like a whale.  I'm terrified for the next 11 weeks of weight gain!  Anyone else feel like an ugly cow?

Re: third trimester and feel like a whale

  • I know how you feel! I'm 28 weeks and feel like over the last few days I've gotten HUGE. Definitely looking forward to losing the weight after our son is born! Hopefully it doesn't take too long!

  • Yes definitely feeling that way! I'm 30 weeks tomorrow and I've gotten a couple "are you sure it's not twins" and "you must be due soon" comments. I still have a good ways to go and I can't imagine getting any bigger!
  • I'm 39+1 and I feel huge despite the comments that I look great for a pregnant person.
I look forward to being able to bend down again!
Alas, I know losing weight hopefully it will be easy once the baby is here. I'm just not stressing over that. Just going to take each day as it is. And once the LO graces us with their presence l look forward to spending those days with the LO!
Hang in there and don't stress over your weight!
  • I don't feel like an ugly cow. I feel like a pregnant woman about to have a beautiful baby. I'm not always comfortable with the way I look but it doesn't last forever.

  • I wouldn't say ugly cow at all bc I don't feel ugly. Sure I feel huge but I'm also almost 39 weeks. People tell me I look great. It's definitely hard to watch the scale go up but it's for your baby and only temporary

  • I have my good days and my bad days. I also struggle with my weight and body image. I am really trying to be more forgiving and realistic with myself as I know I am growing a tiny human being and weight gain is a part of the process. I feel better when I know I have eaten healthy and done some small physical activity. Walking twenty minutes a day a few times a week has been the most helpful.
  • I feel HUGE with this baby! I have never been "thin" but really feel big with this little guy (he is my first boy after 3 girls). Hang in there I think I will be much more motivated to lose the weight after this one. My legs feel the worst very swollen and big!!!! :)
  • Um, yes.  I am a small person carrying a very large baby.  I have a big bump and carry only in the front.  On top of that, I have terrible swelling too.  I don't feel my most attractive, but I am doing what I can to continue to be healthy for my baby and plan on working hard to get back in shape after he is here and doctor gives the all clear.

  • I get the "is it twins?" all the time too!
  • Don't worry. It's really not just you. I'm 33 weeks and don't recognise myself. I've already gained 40 pounds and it's all on my torso. Absolutely terrified of what I'll look like at the end of this.
  • Please keep in mind you are growing a human!!

  • I feel huge. Nothing fits. I'm all ready bigger than my "fat clothes" DH is a smaller dude so it makes it feel even worse. We are making a tiny human tho. So it's okay. Own it, you will get back down.
  • I don't feel ugly but I look kind of ridiculous (though it doesn't bother me). I've gained 30+ lbs. but it only shows in my belly. Our neighbor jokes that I am having triplets. My boobs have grown a bit but since I'm normally an AAA cup no one can really tell aside from me and DH. So I'm like this 5'1" flat chest and a giant belly. A good thing is that I can still wear my pre-pregnancy stretchy maxi dresses 'cause they can stretch out over my bump. My maternity jeans from 2nd trimester are too tight now. I get a lot of comments from strangers about looking ready to burst.
  • I'm 32 weeks and have already gained 35 lbs, which is the top of my suggested 25-35 lbs. What helps me is wearing clothes that show my belly, instead of just making me look huge.

For instance, none of my workout tops fit, so the other day I wore a huge t-shirt to the gym and felt just horrible. Yesterday I decided to sacrifice one of my favorite work-out tanks and just wear it anyway, knowing it would get stretched out. Well, it looked much better than the big t-shirt and made me feel very pregnant instead of just very big.
    It's a girl! Due November 22, 2014
