Itchy legs

i am 20 weeks and every night my legs itch like crazy. Nothing seems to help and it is driving me nuts. Anyone have this and did anything help???

Re: Itchy legs

  • You might want to bring it up with your doctor. I think itching is a symptom of something else but I cannot recall what. The other ladies may know.

  • I have a doc appt tomorrow and definitely bringing it up. I read it can be a liver problem.
  • I have been itching since first tri, started in pelvic area then went everywhere. nothing topical helped. I talked to OB and dermatologist and they just kind of said "meh, it's hives". Benedryl/Claritin reccommended. Dermatologist also gave me an Rx cream that helps a little but not a lot. Steroid/steroid creams are a last resort but safety isn't known so as long as benedryl/unisom is helping I am sticking it out.

  • I will see what my doc says tomorrow. Has Benadryl helped? Is it safe to take?
  • Benedryl has been a godsend for me, only thing that helps. Dr told me it's safe even am&pm on bad days. See what your Dr says, hope it gets better!

  • I am so happy you posted this! I have been going nuts for a few weeks. My next doctor appointment isn't for 2 weeks so let me know what you find out tomorrow,
  • Ask your doctor to check you for colestasis (sp?). I had it with my first pregnancy and I couldn't sleep and cried every night it itched so bad. They can give you a medication for it. I didn't catch it until too late in my pregnancy to take the medication
  • Try a warm heating pad on your legs every night before bedtime. My grandfather has RLS in his shoulders and medication didn't help, but a warm heating pad helps every time. Sometimes, veins and arteries get pinched, causing the blood flow to weaken which causes problems like the feelings of itching and tightness. Usually heat and some minor massaging is all that is needed to get the blood flowing at its usual rate again.

  • Do you have any kind of rash? I have a contact dermatitis localized to my inner thighs to blame for my itching. OB said hydrocortisone cream is safe.
  • Is it like a rash/bug bite itch? I got restless leg syndrome when I was pregnant with DS. It got it around 7 months. It was the worst! I could not get comfy. I read online it was caused by pregnancy in some women. The only time I got relief was when DH/mom rubbed my legs. The relief went away as soon as they stopped.
