DD turns 6 in January. I have a new-in-the-box AG "looks like me" doll that MIL & SIL & my nieces got me for Christmas about 7 years ago. They were really into AG at the time with my nieces, and I still have NO IDEA why they decided to get ME a doll. I was confused then and still confused now. I still suspect there was some screw up with one of the niece's dolls b/c the "looks like me" that I got has blue eyes, and I have brown. Anyway, I would like to pass this doll on to DD. They are recommended for ages 8 and up but I really see no reason why a six year old wouldn't enjoy it.
Would you give it to DD this year or wait until next year?
Re: AG Doll s/o-ish WWYD?
Wholeheartedly agree! I don't understand why they recommend 8 other than the books are really geared for closer to that age. Yes, give the doll to your DD...
If you look back at the history of the dolls, they were originally meant to be a doll that was a collector piece that girls could play with without fear of porcelain as most collector dolls were back then, but also that if you didn't want to play with could be a "mantle piece". Pleasant Company really did a fantastic job with the quality of the dolls such that they held up to being well loved. Since Mattel took over, the quality has taken a hit.

Thanks, all! I have NO IDEA why I got that doll. It was super weird and I have never figured it out. THey usually are quite "normal" with gifts, really, so this was out of the norm. As I said, I thought maybe something got messed up with dolls for my niece and instead of returning one they gave it to me??!? Or maybe they wanted me to feel involved since they were into AG at the time with my two nieces (who are now 10 and 13). I have never figured it out. Just super strange.
Also, I ran the idea of giving it to DD past my SIL (b/c of course she will see it and know) and she was kind of strange about it even now! I thought she would say, "Oh, of course, that's wonderful! By all means pass it on." Who knows. Maybe she wanted to buy DD a doll this year or something as a big gesture (she's her godmother and it's a big deal in DH's family).
and yes- give it to DD.
