12 month old wakes up screaming and crying

For the past two weeks, my 12 month old baby girl has been waking up at 12-12:30 screaming and and crying. It's been happening every night and I have no idea what to do. She's not hungry, her diaper is changed and her tummy is fine. I'm sure she's having teething problems, but I don't know what else to do. She doesn't want me to hug her, play with her and she also has a "go-to" show that she loves to watch, but she doesn't want that either. My husband was reading about night terrors and nightmares. Is there anyone dealing with this as well? How do you cope with it? I let her lay with me in the dark and let her cry it out til she falls asleep, but is there anything else I could do? I've also noticed she cries longer when I hug and hold her to sleep, so that's why I let her just lay with me and cry and leave her alone but it makes me so sad!..I just want her to know I'm here for her.

  • If it is in fact night terrors, unfortunately, there isn't much you can do.  I have dealt with this with my 4 year old in the past.  It started last Spring out the blue and for a stretch, happened every single night within the first few hours of her going to bed.  I noticed that the more I tried to comfort her, the longer the episode lasted.  If she looked at me, there was absolutely no recognition.  Her actions really freaked DH and me out.  We talked to her pedi about it and he said it can be common in young kids and can run in families.  Luckily for DD, she never had any recollection of it the next day so it's actually more traumatizing for the parents who have to witness it, than it is for the child.  Good luck to you, and if it is night terrors, hopefully it passes quickly!

I'm just really sleepy that's all hahaha I feel so bad tho! And yes I've noticed it last longer when I try to soothe her. I hear molars come at this time and they're really painful
  • If you think it is teething pain, why don't you give her pain medication?  Ibuprofen is safe after 6 months and tends to work better than tylenol.

I do give her medicine, I give it to her before she goes to bed. But it's been going on for two weeks so idk what is going on, then my husband was reading about night terrors
