Would you call the doc?

I also posted this on the 3rd Tri board because I really can't decide what to do....
So long story short I am currently 32 weeks pregnant(FTM) and at 30 weeks I was experiencing some crampy contractions (only at night and for a couple of weeks before I finally mentioned it to my OB), went to L&D the night it was particularly bad, and found out I was 1 cm dilated and 70% effaced. I was given the fetal fibronectin test, which was positive, received steroid shots to aid in lung maturity, and placed on 5 days of bed rest. After the 5 days I was rechecked by my OB and there was no change. I was allowed to return to work.

Everything has been back to normal. I've had braxton hicks but no cramping or anything until Friday night. The last two nights I have woken up due to low menstrual-like cramps and lower back cramps. I am a little concerned as this is what landed me in L&D before, but also unsure if I should call the on-call doctor unless it progresses to something more. I don't want to look like I'm over reacting!

Would you call or go to L&D and get checked anyway? Or wait to see if the contractions/cramping progress in some way?

  • I would chug some water and lay down to see if it calms down, if it doesn't, I'd call

  • I agree...if you are concerned you should call. Don't leave anything up to chance, it's always best to be safe. It is their job to make sure you are ok, no matter what. You will not look like you're overreacting.

  • I agree that I'd be on the phone right away. If there's even a part of you that thinks something could be progressing, it's better to check it out, and get the professional opinion.
  • Based on your history, I'd call. They might just tell you to wait but I'd want to speak to the Dr.

  • It's best to follow your instincts.  With what has happened before with you, I would call.  It's better to be safe than sorry, let them decide what's best for you.  There are numbers for after hours and the weekends for reasons like this.  I've learned recently to not let things go to far if you truly feel like something is wrong or off.  Trust your gut and call.  If it's nothing to worry about great!  If not, you can go from there.

  • Thanks y'all. I just had an on call doctor make me feel pretty dumb the last time. So I get apprehensive when it's not my doctor on call.

  • I am getting ready to call. Trying to decide if I wait until the office opens at 9. I keep putting it off, I know it's dumb I just don't want to be written off by someone who doesn't know my full situation. I am cramping again and potentially leaking fluid? as I woke up a couple of hours ago with wet pants and a wet spot on the bed (sorry if TMI)...

  • Glad you are going; FX everything is ok! Hugs
  • I'm glad you decided to call.  The thing with waiting until the office opens (at least with my OB) is that you leave a message for the nurse or doctor to call you back and it could be a couple of hours before you get a response.  Definitely better to call the on-call doctor.

Thinking of you!  FX everything is okay!
