Hi ladies, I don't post too often but I've always been a part of the BMB checking things out. I just wanted to send out a PSA on fevers. Our LO was 4 weeks yesterday and I noticed he was a little warm. Nothing else seemed out of the ordinary, he was not fussy and was eating and soiling diapers as usual, but he had a rectal temp of 101.1
Seeing as he is only 4 weeks the pediatrician told us to go straight to the children's hospital. Last night ended up being the scariest of my life as he had multiple test done including an IV put in, urine sample through a tube, and the worst being a lumbar spinal tap. He was diagnosed with meningitis and we had to wait to find out if it was bacterial or viral (frightening as bacterial meningitis is deadly). He was given if antibiotics and after 6 hours in the er we were admitted to the hospital. We got the results back and it is the enterovirus which is a viral meningitis.
He doesn't need anymore meds and we will have to stay one more night for observation, but we are so thankful it was nothing more serious.
So if LO feels a little warm, make sure you check his temp, better to be safe than sorry!!

Re: Fever and viral meningitis
DS1 had a fever last month and I was terrified #2 would get whatever random virus it was and end up with a lumbar puncture. Thankfully he didn't get it.
No fun
