Pregnant after 35

Aversions

Water is my main one. Tastes very metallic. I feel like I'm drinking liquid pennies.
Also-- anything slightly spicy (ie: the Mild sauce at Taco Bell) tastes like I have a mouth full of jalapeno seeds.

Re: Aversions

  • This time around I have not wanted any Mexican food. And that is all I ate the last 3 times.

  • I really thought this was a post on "Versions" and was LoL-ing about the miss-spelling! Glad to see it's not ;)

Aversions this time have been mostly water but chicken as well.

  • I had a few both times and thankfully they went away!  With my first, I could not drink coffee, eat bananas, or yogurt (I could drink keifer, though).  I was fine once my morning sickness went away.

This time, I have not been as interested in mineral water, which is my very favorite thing to drink normally.  I went through a phase where coffee and bananas weren't very appealing.

  • My aversions are going away slowly.  They were proteins in general, specifically chicken and fish, and some vegetables like broccoli and asparagus.  This morning, I had to stick to a breakfast of tater tots!
  • @NeonNoon- Duuude. Tater tots. Now I want some. With cheese and sour cream for dipping!
  • None for me yet, but @eastie156 and @lgsdesigner - water?!? What a bummer!

  • I can only drink Deer Park plastic bottled water (I prefer using my glass bottle, but the water tastes like soap or something to me), drinking water out at restaurants tastes funny too, so I've been drinking ginger ale or sprite.

I still don't really want beef or any kind of meat other than well done chicken and lately I've been craving pulled pork, bbq flavor. I was majorly craving pickles and olives early on, but the past few weeks I haven't touched them and I've been having a hard time eating my veggies! Ugh, which I hate, because I love broccoli, asparagus and spinach, I had to choke down some broccoli recently -- and I added 'butter' and pepper to it... it sucks! I'm able to eat corn and peas though and I'm also loving tater tots (but not really fries)!

  • Last pregnancy I had problems with water as well.  Not so much the taste but how it would sit in my stomach.  The only water that I could drink was Fiji.  Made for a rather $$$ pregnancy.

  • I find that time of day makes a difference too.  For me, if I have water first thing, it makes my MS worse or triggers it.  But it goes down a lot easier later in the day.

I like lemon or lime Perrier.  I tried homemade ginger ale too.  It was a lot of work and not any better than the Perrier.
  • My aversions are iced tea and chicken.  It's weird because they were regular parts of my diet before pregnancy.

  • All dairy, chicken, and crackers (weird I know).

  • Ok, do smells count?  I normally have a rarely strong stomach for bad smells (unlike DH who gags at diapers) but this morning I could not go near out sink full of dirty dishes.  It was really too much for me!  Hmmm, actually this might be a good aversion...

  • OMG the smells!  My guy has a job that keeps him out in the heat most of the day. It's been incredibly hot here in CA the last few weeks.  I can't go near his dirty laundry, the sweat smell is enough to send me over the edge!

  • @GingerMommy315-  I hear you! Last night, DH and I came back from the gym and he took his shoes off and the feet sweat smell made me gag. I ordered him to the shower.

I haven't had any real food aversions, other than wanting more comfort food early on with MS because I wanted things that would be more gentle on my stomach.  Orange juice seems to be something I can only have a little bit of, though, or I have problems.

I have had a few smell aversions.  We had to switch our laundry detergent because the smell really bothered me and was making me nauseous.

    Warning!
The other thing...ahem...has been the bathroom at work.  I pretty much never have issues with people being human and having digestive issues.  It's life, and generally I'm cool with it.  But some people are flagrant (fragrant?) abusers who do not use the courtesy flush.  It almost caused an issue a couple of times when my MS was raging because I wasn't sure I was going to make it the 15' to the door and fresh air in time.
  • @xilahn don't get me started on people who then don't wash their hands... and I work at a place that deals with public health issues, among other things. there should be fines for this kind of thing!

I've had cravings but  not really aversions, although I seem to be losing my taste for coffee (and don't have nausea (yet?) so it's not that). Very strange!

@lgsdesigner have you tried the bottled water that has electrolytes added, like Smartwater or pedialyte? are they any better?
