Indian Prefolds?

Hi, new to this board, due in March.

My last 2 babes were cd'd, we used FB (old style, medium)... and I still have my stash, although I'll need to check the elastics. They are now 6 and 5 and we have another on the way. I have nothing in terms of nb cd.

Looking on CL I found a listing for 32 indian prefolds and 4 prorap covers, used for a year. One of the dipes looks like the pul separated, but otherwise, good condition, $40. I am thinking of snatching them, but I don't know much about indian prefolds.

Anyone have any advice?

Re: Indian Prefolds?

  • Are they nb size prefolds? I would ask about layers. Most generic Indian cotton prefolds are fine, but some come with fewer layers, especially nb size. Good ones are 4x8x4.

  • What size are the prefolds? If they were used for a year on the same baby, I'd guess they are infant sized, which will be really bulky on a NB. It would work, but if you'll probably be happier with true NB prefolds.

Also you'll want 6-8 covers to wash EOD during the NB stage. So even if the ProWarps are NB sized ( which I'm wondering whether they might be bigger since I don't think NB size would fit over infant prefolds)...you'd still want another 3-5 covers.

In general Indian cotton is a good choice for prefolds. Should last through 3-4 kids. Brands like Green Mountain Diapers (Cloth-eez), Sweet Pea, Osocozy, and Imagine are sone of the more desirable brands.

  • Thanks girls. I asked her, and they are the regular from cottonbabies, so 4x6x4. :( Plus... huge??

I have big babies (8lbs, 8oz and 8lbs, 14oz), so I am thinking I need infant sized prefolds, right? And probably size 1 or small covers, depending.

  • Infant size prefolds are equivalent to a small usually so those would work, although they will be bulky and need to be folded down at first.

  • We have Indian cotton prefolds and love them. I don't remember how much they cost but what you are mentioning doesn't sound too bad, that's almost a dollar a prefold. If they are in good condition I don't see why not.
