Parenting after a Loss

Sleep apnea with cold?

Baby boots has a cold and last night it sounded like he had sleep apnea episodes, I would suddenly hear him gasp, cough and then go back to sleep.

We are calling the doctor to see what they recommend, just wonder if anyone has dealt with this and what kind of treatment was recommended? I can't imagine getting a baby to wear a CPAP or anything.

Did you hear from the doctor since you posted this?  I'm not sure about sleep apnea, but we've had great success with a cold humidifier in our DS's room.

Yeah they said could be pneumonia or bronchitis but his cold doesn't seem that bad and he's not coughing much just a little. We are going to keep an eye on him tonight and see if it happens again and if so call again in the AM. Their appt schedule was full for the day so our only options were an Urgent care who we've had bad experiences with and the ER and I didn't think that was warranted.

Yes we will try the humidifier tonight.

Ugh I wish I didn't have so much anxiety I just freak any time something is wrong with him!

  • Definitely try the humidifier.  When M had her first cold, the mucus was really thick and would pool while she slept making her gasp and cough.  It was awful.  The humidifier really did wonders for her congestion.  You could also try elevating the mattress under his head.
